Just a bit of a muck around with my DSLR last night. A bit of high cloud and 5 minute single sub and this is what I got. Details under the image.

I must try this in earnest some time soon. Pretty reasonable results I thought.

Lots of nice detail for just one sub Paul.
Can you imagine 3 or 4 hours of that stacked??? It'd be sublime.

Nothing wrong with that, it's great.

The glow from the crux stars - was that done in post?

Yeah thought has occurred to me. Might make for a nice lounge room image. Just need to find the time.:) So many projects on the go I just don't know what takes precedence at present.

Thanks Mike. No the star glow was from the high cloud. There was just enough of it about to be even but very thin. It makes for a more effective look, just a pity we cannot turn that off and on anytime we like. :)

Hi Paul,

Very nice image for a single sub. As a project with more subs would make for a lovely feature for the lounge

Cheers,

Danny

Hi, Paul.

I like that image!
The glow around the stars in crux, is that to do with prcessing?
I had a similar result when imaging lovejoy, that was the lens fogging.

Cheers,
Justin.

Thanks guys.

Justin the star glow was from very high thin cloud only. I just pushed the curves a little make the colour more prominent.

Nice one Paul. Just shows that a good image doesn't necessarily have to take hours and hours.

Very nice Paul.

Vibrant color for 1 exposure.

Did you even have to guide that ? 5 min on ME with 50mm lens I would be shocked if your guider even made 1 correction.

If only that left hand star had played nice it would look like that had been shot thru a refractor, very nice for a single 5 Minute shot Paul.

Very nice piccie, Paul:)

I like how the high cloud gave the stars those halos, sets it all off just nicely.

Thanks all.

I have subsequently reshot this with a 135mm f2 lens and got better stars, and even some nice glow too. I will post it once I have done the processing.

Also have a nice lot of data on the LMC too.

Chris I was guiding through the TSA102, but even unguided there is little if any movement.

Thanks once again. Certainly a planned project with the STL or QSI with the 135mm now. Kind of liking this really wide field stuff at present. Avoiding working with the RC.;) Don't want to waste valuable clear skies, as you would all appreciate.
