Well done Warren, was that on your recumbent?
I ride 20 km return each day to and from work, saves me money, helps me to get fit without gym fees (more savings for astro gear :D) and supposedly saving the environment.
And no, haven't bumped in to Shane Warne yet :P

Feels really good I have to get a dampener for the steering when I get some speed up the handlebars try to jump out of my hands:scared:

Yes it was on the Recumbent. About three years ago when I could ride a normal bike I was riding 33 klm's per day sometimes I would do it in the morning too if it was holiday period and there was no rush of traffic in the morning. So I am aiming to get back up to that distance again

You are making me feel guilty now. I haven't ridden to work once this year yet. 30km round trip.

Geez Warren, you rode at a Top speed of 31 kph
with an Average speed of 15 kph :eyepop:

If I had a bike that slow I'd rebuild the engine or get it to the mechanics really quick! :scared:

Ahhhhh . . . you mean a 'bicycle'

well why didn't you say so

I should ride to work, only 10 km or so and I have the bike but last time I nearly got bowled by a car. Should buy an MTB so I can do the footpaths, the thin rimmed road bike is not so good on the rough stuff. It's quick but not very sturdy.
Also might solve my parking problem.

Good on ya Warren, keep it up, you'll get there.

( Now you're making me feel guilty  )

I think the thing you want is called a city bike. Basically the frame is a bit of a cross between a racer and a mountain bike with heavy rims but large profile smoothish tyres. So you don't have too much rolling friction but can still handle a few bumps and some dirt.

It's Tour time here so I don't ride (too many knobs around at present). I train at home on my bike with a trax trainer. Last training session was 20km in 40 minutes on Wednesday. Just a walk in the park now. After the tour I will get out and do some 40km rides and get into longer rides once a week.

Work up to it Warren and enjoy the rides. That is my advice.

Yep, a flat bar road bike is the way to go. Make sure you get decent tyres. They are the only points of contact betwwn you and the road. Get a Kevlar belted ones like Gatorskins and you cant go wrong. Mine has done 6500 km and still no puncture
