Comet Lovejoy 15-1-12

Hi,
After a couple of days in the City, I managed to image comet lovejoy in the clear skies at home.
I had to play around with the camera settings to bring out the comet.
Canon 1100D
18 to 35 zoom at 24 f/4
7 x 120 sec light frames 3 darks ISO 3200
Processed in DSS and photoshop.
Cropped images.

Yep, that's a 10 pot comet......needs 10 pots of coffee before it can cast a shadow!!!!!:):)

Wouldn't it have been awesome to have had this conjunction 3 weeks ago??
All the same, it's still a marvellous shot. And one we'll we'll probably never have again in our life time.

JJJ thats what i once thought, (involving bright comets conjunction) when viewing Comet C/2001 Q4 (NEAT) ANZAC day 2004 (http://southern-x.org/gallery-q4b.html), naked eye 10d tail touching the LMC ... there was also a smaller comet that went close to SMC few years back some nice pics here of that one somewhere in here?, and of course McNaught was in the frame (http://spaceweather.com/comets/mcnaught/09feb07/Garradd1.jpg) plenty

I forgot to say, i am sooo impressed by the 1100D as an astro tool (and even some of those kit lens shots you did Justin!) wow i seen them go real cheap - what an era we live in!

regarding SCP and mag's as graveyard for some comets, and regular (in galactic timescale) conjunctions, i guess being one of our two main apparent celestial 'vanishing points' its not surprising - if you could image deep enough Hale-Bopp is still next too LMC? lol

The Canon 1100D certainly seems the go for an entry level camera. Iv'e been keeping my eye on reviews by other users and they all seem happy with it.

Yes, 1997 O1 tilbrook was faint, bit did get to mag 8.8 for a brief time. 1999 A1 tilbrook was even fainter and wasn't around for long, I think even less people saw that one.
