Hi all,

I finally got a f1.8 lens for my Nikon D200 I was looking around the recycle center and I saw this old Nikon case with the film camera in it and I excitedly opened the case and there it was a Nikon Series E lens 50mm 1:1.8 and it is in perfect condition manual focus but that is what you need for widefield shots of the milkyway or so I am told?:D. I am so keen to try it out on a clear night I can't sit still:cool::jump::camera:. All this for only $10:thumbsup:

Will the E series lenses fit a D200??

Yep I have already taken some test shots with it and they looked great only looking out my window at the windmill:D. I set the focal length and the apeture in the non CPU setting in the camera and everything works properly.

Great find. That's the advantage of high end DSLRs, set it to manual and way you go!

Great find and a great price as well Warren.

It's always good to get a bargain like that.

Good find Wazza.

So will a circa 1980/90's (for eg) Nikon lens fit and work (ie reach focus) with a D7000...?

Just imagine if it was a f1.4 :D

Now that is a deal!

I have a more current 50mm 1.4 and it is a great lens, but it cost me a bit more than $10!!

I'm sticking with DX cameras though, so I'll probably sell it or swap it for a 35mm lens, as the 50mm is a little long on the DX cameras.

They do on my D90, so do lenses from the 1970s.

I think you will want a bit of a wider lens than the 50mm, but you can still get some very nice piccies.

Great find and nice lens. Sounds great for widefield shots of the solar eclipse. :)

Onya Warren, that's a nice find for a tenner....
What was the film camera it was attached to?
I had a 50mm series E on my first ever camera, a Nikon FG20 bought in 1986.
The series E's were the budget lenses of their time, and the 70-150 zoom was a well regarded lens by a few of the big pros of the time.
Love how you can use older Nikon lenses on the new cameras (bite on that you Canon users....:P ) I've got a D700, and have manual 500mm F4 and 800mm F5.6 tele lenses for birding. They still work fine. OK, I bin lots by not having AF, but there's the beauty of digital - no film....!!!
The manual lenses can go cheap if you are in the right place at the right time (as you were!!), though try finding a 6mm F2.8 Fisheye, 300mm F2.0, or 13mm F5.6....they all still go for north of $15K
And they'd still be usable today....
Cheers

Hi John,

I have to admit once I saw the lens I didn't pay much attention to the camera except to look for the button to release the lens but it was a Nikon naturally:). The fisheye is on my shopping list so still have to roam the secondhand and recycling stores:astron:

Cheers Warren. I guess the camera doesn't matter anymore, hey?

Have had my eye on this baby for a few weeks, but just saw it has sold...:(

Darn....close to 10K pounds is about $14K Oz, plus GST..someone will be happy with that little beast!!

Fisheyes have gone to $25K, as has the 13mm F5.6
There was a MF 15mm F3.5 on *bay, wasn't sold at $850. Not sure how it went last time. Dunno how good it is compared the 14mm end of the 14-24 zoom (maybe someone's done star shots with it out there???)
