I have been intrigued by this object for several years and have imaged it a number of times.

I thought it would make a good target with the Pentax 67 lenses.
The 165mm frames virtually all of it plus a couple of the Gum nebulas.

I took this one over the Christmas break at my dark site.

Ha 1 hour O111 2 hours (2x2)
LRGB 20 minutes each for a total of 4 hours and 20 minutes.

FLI Proline 16803, PMX mount.

Hi Greg,

A great photo. So sharp and detailed and I love the colours.

You are really producing some beautiful photos with your Pentax lenses.

At the moment I've got a Nikon 180mm lens set up on my mount in the backyard, attached to a QHY9 mono camera and a Ha filter. If it stays clear, it will be my first proper test with it.

Looks great Greg! some of your best work has come from this region and It's easy to see why It's a favorite.

Fantastic image Greg. Looks like some kind of interstellar confectionary dripping with sugar and laced in fairyfloss. What an amazing object.

Great framing greg, the only thing that im wondering about is where are the star colours as the over all picture looks a tad mono eg you have the blue of the SNR and the red of the back ground nebula but everything else is white/bluey white? Possibly it could be Sidonioed to process for star colours? and some over all colouring?

Thanks Ross. I used a Nikon 180mm ED at one time. It is a nice lens.

Cheers Louie, I do like this region.

Thanks for that. It is a maze of nebula and tendrils and background red hydrogen. Its amazing how much stuff is in a large star.

Yes true. I repro'd it from a certain point. The stars have to be masked on every layer of Ha and O111 added or it pollutes the stars. This version seems better.

Nice work Greg a very interesting target and superbly processed. Was that piggy backed on your ME or MX ?

On top of a TEC110 on the PMX. I'll post a photo of the rig. It looks pretty unusual but it all worked well.

Thanks Lucas. There is a lot of interesting colour in there. Its a bit like the northern hemispheres Veil Nebula.

Greg
I love that photo as it's so delicate. Even with the strong background which makes thus ephemeral strands so delicately resolved.
Beautiful.

Top image Greg with a lot of depth. Good to see your rig also.

All the best.

Thanks Allan. Those strands are very delicate and make it a very interesting area.

Cheers Paul. Its one of my better lens images. Too short a focal length and you lose resolution, too long and you don't take it all in.

Thanks Lester.

Very nice maybe a bit rich in the red for my taste but overall top effort

Thanks Trevor. It is rather red.

I've done a repro and got the red tamed and the star colours back in and the blue remnant
more contrasted. I am happier with this version.

I should have posted on this sooner Greg, having gawked at the thread a number of times. My first reaction was always that the red was a bit over-powering, but I bit my tongue having no experience with it myself. It is an intriguing object as you say, and must confess I wasn't aware of it or it's significance until Marco posted his rendition last year. Mind boggling really.

I love the Ha version most of all but the recent repro has much nicer colour IMHO too. Sounds like it was quite a processing challenge.

Thanks (yet again!) for taking the trouble to snap a pic of your rig. The big 67 lens and FLI camera are wonderful to drool at. You and Marc have a lot to answer for teasing us all with your widefield exploits! ;) :)

Thanks Trevor I find the lens type images tricky to get a good colour look and the stars layered in through the Ha and O111 image which tends to dominate. I was happiest with this latest version which has the LRGB stars layered in using an inverted mask so only the star colour came through and not the background colour which had very little data in it.

I did find it challenging to process. These 67 lenses aren't very expensive so they are a good way to get into lens imaging. That 165mm lens probably only cost about $250 or less. The camera of course is expensive though.

I can see a lot of fun ahead with this new Pentax lens setup Greg, these early results look great. The colour version is rather Lorenzi-esque ;)...and done in one shot to boot

I like the Ha only too

What do these frames look like at full res? I imagine the Ha is pretty spectacular?

How you can possibly properly utilise your now formidable line up of imaging artillery is beyond me...I think you should divvy it up a bit ...or if you are greedy, mean and nasty :poke: ...then I think a GRAS style roll of roof remote unit that houses all your setups would be a sight to behold - cool :D

Hey Greg,
this is certainly a fantastic fov.
The colours are electric....
Would love to see a large image of this to see how good this lens is.
My eye sight aint what it use to be that's for sure.. find I squint a bit with smallish images these days;)

I'm with Mike..... you need a 6m x 12m roll off shed to house all your gear... that would be a sight to see all set up!

All the best
Rich

Hehe, Thanks Mike. I'll see if I can post a larger version of that Ha image. I was impressed when I saw the downloads.

Thanks Leo. I like your work as well.

Thanks Rich. I'll resize the tiff file to a larger size and post it later on.

Cheers,

Greg.
