It was raining here pretty-well all day. Bored!!!!! I was meant to go to Cooma again, but not when it's wet.

I rarely have time to myself, so I took full opportunity of said wet weather - so I made a movie while testing out a prospective new synthesizer. Footage is from my 5D Mark II of stuff in my studio.

It's only a quick dabble, so musically it's not anything. That comes tonight - hopefully after a few beers. :)

What did you get up to today? Anything constructive?

Today... I gurneyed the verandahs, patios and paths around the house to remove all the bird droppings that accumulated while we were away in the morning and this afternoon I formatted the C: drive on my desktop and reinstalled windows... oh, the joy!

I'll have a listen and a look when I'm in off peak time (I've given my peak bandwidth a flogging today).

I took my classic Merc 450 SLC for a spin and had a $10 pepper steak at a country pub. The went to a chinese restaurant with my grand kids and son and partner. All in all a good cloudy day not wasted.

Since 20:45 we've had one thunderstorm (still going), lost both power phases once for maybe 30 secs (one UPS kept one computer up, other UPS didn't keep other one up), lost one phase a second time (still out 30 mins later), garage flooded, dog scared out of his wits.

And the radar shows another thunderstorm heading our way.

Drove to work (in the rain!)...visited 7 wet crime scenes...drove home (in the rain!) scooped leaves and bluegum bark out of the pool for half an hour (yep, in the rain!) It's still raining. Got a fair bit of stuff done though, so yeah, quite constructive. Rainy days are good for getting things done, obviously.

Thanks Bart :)

My astronomy and associated astro gear have now taken a very distant back seat to this. Not completely sure that it actually interests me any more.

Nice demo Chris. What other synths are you using?

Spent my day working on getting ST 1.2 & new website ready.

Oh dear:(, that's not good. Hope you don't let it slip quietly away and die. Think of all those magical nights you spent outside under clear windless skies......oh, that's right, they went as soon as I purchased my scope:P. Quirky music though (:screwy:).

Yesterday I journeyed to Allan's Music and bought a Line6 UX1 guitar interface so I can play and record some electric guitar using (for the moment) Garage Band. I also splashed out on a 49 key midi keyboard so that I don't have to drag my Triton LE from the upstairs.

I love all your gear Chris but for me it'd be wasted, I lack talent ;)

(Sorry for the blurry picture)

Thanks Ivo :) I haven't recorded anything half-way serious yet, just mucking about with new technology. I aim to record an album of sorts soon - hopefully emulating something close to Clint Mansell's style and then Klause Schulze. I love his sequencer-based "Berlin old-school" recordings from the 70's. I'm just experimenting right now.

Hardware synths: I'm using A Moog Slim Phatty (full analogue), Doepfer Dark Energy (full analogue) as well as Dark Time analogue sequencer and a Waldorf Blofeld (digital wavetable).

Software (Mac-based): Embedded synths and patches in Apple Logic 9, Ableton Live 8, Cubase 4, MainStage and GarageBand. Add to those the one one I used here, GForce Software's standalone impOSCar2, MiniMonsta (Mini Moog reco) and Oddity (ARP Odyssey reco).

Software (iOS-based): Moog's Animoog and Filtatron, Alchemy, Sunrizer, NLogPro, Korg's iMS-20, iKaossilator and iElectribe, AuraFlux, FairlightPro, Seline, Akai SynthStation, SoundPrism, BeBot, MorphWiz, SampleWiz and GeoSynth from Jordan Rudess (Dream Theatre), CoreSynth, CrystalSynth, Xenon, NoiseIO, Aeolian Harp, improVox, GarageBand, Amplitube, iShredLive, SixStrings,Genome MIDI, iSequence, MidiMonitor, FunkBox, Cascadr, LittleMidi, touchABLE (Live control surface), MixTiki, TouchOSC, Phaedra, SweetMIDI, EG-DR808, SampleTank, ThumbJam, iMaschine, MixrDJ, AddictiveSynth, iDrum, WIorchestra, LoopyHD, Performer, Drums! and MidiBridge. All of these are phenomenal instruments and MIDI controller/sequencers. Thank goodness for CoreMIDI.

Ingrid - no, I won't just yet. If I decide to get out of astronomy though, there's going to be an absolute PILE of gear on the market.

Simon - excellent pick up. Line6 stuff is great - I use their Mobilizer II on my phone to connect MIDI via cable to my MOTU controller rather than ad-hoc when required. Don't underestimate GarageBand - it's quite incredible for what it is. You might get the midiO plugin that lets GB pass MIDI CC messages to an external MIDI device - something it doesn't normally do.

Loved the music and the video, Chris.

Unfortunately the weather hasn't been playing 'nice' of late. Once we get back into it I am sure things will change for you.

What did I do yesterday? I set up the Apple TV that my good friend gave me for my birthday recently. Thankyou. How cool is that?:)
