Here's Comet Lovejoy over six days last week:

http://vimeo.com/34639569

Twenty leaders arrive here at Camp Cooinda on the Gippsland Lakes tomorrow and then forty campers on Tuesday.. and I'm responsible for all of them! :help:. Then I get home again on the 17th Jan for two days before flying out to the Yukon for two months of aurora timelapse photography!

cheers

Was it Murphy's law of astronomy that it moved, across the Milky Way, and parallel to it, as it faded? :D

Nice video, Phil.

Has anyone done a timelapse of the comet moving across the starfield - using one image per night?

Wow, Phil, that is superb work!

I imaged it extensively as well. Lots to process.

Great timelapses Phil!

Yukon!! You lucky bugger! We all expect to see some great videos then while you're over there and once you get back! Make sure you take a jacket! lol

Great video Phil. On my first successful night I had a ship in almost the same position as that navigation light.

Rob Kaufman did a cool annimated GIF you can see on his website (https://sites.google.com/site/robsastropics/comets/comet-c-2011-w3-lovejoy)

Great video, it really shows the comet in all its glory and puts it in perspective.

Lucky you, Yukon is a fabulous place! Make sure you travel the Taylor Highway/Top of the World Highway to Dawson, it's fantastic scenery all the way. I bicycled around there some years ago, it was a trip I'll never forget: http://www.pbase.com/rolfolsen/image/132735964

Great work! What type of tracking mount did you use in the first clip? It's interesting to see how strongly the green airglow has been coming through in everyone's pictures lately.

thanks all for the high praise. i appreciate the kind words.

Dave - it was my trusty old Vixen GP-DX setup on the beach for the week. any eq. mount could have done the job.

airglow certainly seems stronger looking south than other directions and the comet has just been an excuse for a whole lot of people than usual to push some wide sky shots hard? having said that i haven't seen so much green airglow in my other sequences before?

the processing of each sequence has the same colour balance.. so as far as i can tell the colour variation is real although the contrast stretching exaggerates it. no extra saturation though..

cheers
Phil
