I'm thinking about subscribing to Australian Sky & Telescope.

I think there may be some other comparable amateur astronomy magazines. Are there any alternatives that I should consider?

Not really. IMO ... if you're restricting yourself to one mag subscription, and one only, AS&T is the way to go.

AS&T is a very good mag, always on time and at the moment they're offering a free DVD with every subscription.

Both worth having and make great reads on cloudy nights.

Yipes yagon,:eyepop: :scared: asking that question around here is like asking which is the better globular cluster - Omega Centauri or 47 Tuc. :P :poke::lol:

AS&T and S&S

(Oh and it is OC btw (ducks and weaves))

S&S has more Aussie content
AS&T maybe 45% Aussie content

I get both

I actually subscribe to the American S&T, which has a lot more ads to drool over (the drool gets sucked back in when I remember the prices are in US dollars). But, of course, it is very much America centric in the observation stuff.

Also subscribe to AS&T which usually arrives a few days after S&T but doesn't take long to read as half the articles are also in S&T.

Finally Sky and Space which is 100% Australian. Unfortunately it is only once every two months (if it is out on time) so it is a long time between fixes!

There is a bit of overlap between all the magazines too, so something that is in one is also covered in the others. If I had to cancel and leave just one, I would go AS&T with S&S a close second.

G,day Yagon.

Sky and Space is my favorite coz it is 100% Aussie, the problem is it only comes out every 2 months which is a pain.

Australian Sky and Telescope are also very good but it only has partial local content.

Astronomy is an American rag that runs hot and cold.

Sky and Telescope ( original US version) has a lot of fans but I find it pompus and dry.

Astronomy now is the UK offering is of limited value to an Australian star gazer.

In conclusion I would reccomend both Sky and Space and Australian Sky and Telescope. I hope that helps :D

Thanks for the great feedback.

I have subscribed to AS&T because it has 11 editions pa vs 6 in S&S.

I also figure that astronomy isn't that different between countries/hemispheres and I can live with only partial Aussie content.

Thanks again.

Good decision Yagon, and there's nothing stopping you from buying the other one if you like it's contents when it's out on the newstands.

As I've posted on this topic before, I am an avid reader and get most of the previous listed magazines and more...

AS&T and S&S are both good reads...you will enjoy either one or better yet both!
