Got some shots of a blue banded Bee on my second go with the sigma 150mm. Nothing like the amazing shot's that Dennis shoots but good experience nevertheless.

Need to make another diffuser as the one I slapped together this morning is still producing some harsh lighting.

Good work Ken. From personal experience and what I have read on IIS, BBBs are quite challenging to capture in-flight.

Cheers

Thanks guys, was quite excited when I saw the BBB and your are right Dennis they are quite active and lively bees.

Just need to learn and practice to get the epic detail like you get in your shots. I'm shooting 1/250th at f11 iso 100 and a combination of manual and auto focus depending on the subject, any tips and pointers?

Hi Ken

My standard settings are:

Manual exposure.
1/250 sec (max flash sync speed)
F11
ISO100
AF centre point

I use a Canon 580EX II off camera flash in ETTL-II mode and sometimes vary the flash by ± 2/3 stop depending on the insect and background.

Cheers

Dennis
