Hi all,

this is a continuation of yesterdays thread when I was looking at a in-expensive wide field lens. Terry suggested a Canon 5D full size sensor camera so my 24mm lens would fit a larger FOV than it does with my 1.6x sensor sized 20Da or 40D. I looked at a 5D, but without live view, then the MK ll was the carrot to tempt me. Then looked at a modded 5D MK ll from Central DS = $4,500.00 Big ones.

So now I am thinking along the lines of a full sensor QHY one shot colour to put onto my Canon 24mm F1.4 L lens. I got a bit confused, does APS = full sized sensor? Both the QHY 10 and 11 have the same sized sensor, but the QHY 10 is more sensitive with higher QE.

I am hoping some of the QHY owners will chip in here and confirm or deny my points. Would it be easy to mount my Canon 24mm F1.4 lens to the QHY CCD?

Would it be more time consuming to take images of eg. comet than using a standard DSLR camera?

Thanks for your comments.

No, APS sensors are typically 20-28mm in size with a diagonal around the 24-30mm mark. That's why they call them crop sensors....they're a certain crop factor smaller than a full frame (35mm equ') sensor. There's a couple of different sizes of APS sensors...C and H sized. C size sensors are your most common. Nikon C sized sensors tend to be larger than the equivalent Canon make and H sized sensors are larger than both.

Any camera, whether its a CCD or DSLR, if it has a full sized sensor (35mm equ', or even larger) it will cost a lot more than the equivalent APS camera. They cost more when it comes to chip manufacture and the added electronics.

Thanks for the info Carl; there goes that brain wave of mine then. So my best option for a full size sensor is the Canon 5D MK ll.

That would probably be your best bet.

They're out of stock at present but still have a 3-7 day delivery, but at Camera's Direct (http://www.camerasdirect.com.au/canon-eos-5d-mark-ii-digital-slr-camera-body-refurbished), they have have 5D Mk II's (2nd hand) going for $2195.

Might pay to email them.
