I am also keen, weather permitting. It looks like a work colleague Tom, and possibly his mate and/or dad might come along too.

Greg, Greg, Greg, wash your mouth out.......
As my old friend, who is a meteorologist with the BOM, says, "Forecasts greater than 24 hours away are little more than an educated guess."
Keep the faith....

I hope to be there if it is weather permitting, Greg: I know damn well that you have been very right before so i have a contingency plan in place in the event of inclement weather.
The "other Group" are praying for rain  (they want my Karaoke gear/ light show for the night, and me of course).
Otherwise: February and Bretti are coming up quickly

About to leave to go to Bluetongue to see them against the Jets.

Hi Jeremy, you are very welcome to join us. We are often joined by visitors and newbies, and most of us are delighted at the opportunity to give people a chance to observe through our telescopes.
You don't need to bring anything (apart from warm clothes and, if you have a torch, make sure it is covered in several layers of red cellophane so you do not disrupt everyone's dark adaption).
Usually one of the keyholders is there by about 6pm to open the gate up, then we slowly appear over the course of the next 2-3 hours, setting up our scopes in anticipation of darkness.
People pack up and leave as they become tired / frustrated by clouds / frustrated by faulty equipment, etc. Most people would be there until about midnight at least, and on really good nights some have stayed until dawn. I usually head home about 1am.
Eating and drinking provide one way to keep alert and awake, so you would be well advised to bring a thermos with some coffee, etc, and some nibbles.
There is a sticky thread in this section of the forum which provides details of the location.
Hope to see you this Saturday!

Yeah, Rod has pretty well covered it all.
Definitely a good idea to get there before dark, if for no other reason than to get a good spot in the paddock!
Fortunately (or not), dark seems to be after 8 lately.

Anyone know where Mr Owl is these days?
In the last post I read of his he said the weather would not improve until March!
Has he retired till then?
Greg.

At this time of arvo Greg he usually is very retired.
No doubt he will respond in due course.
Might catch you Sat. night.

the Owl is alive and well
do not be concerned
he has been eagerly watching 7Timer to see if he is visiting the mountain this weekend
BUT
although he is well - he is annoyed that the weather for the weekend looks like being CRAP
i guess we will have another chance next weekend

Doesn't look like tonight is going to happen.
The forecasts are for mostly cloudy all night.
As Geoff says, maybe next week?

How's the weather near Mangrove Mt/Gosford area? it is totally overcast here in Sydney and looks like the cloud is not going anywhere soon.

Up here at Burredong dam near Wellington, been enjoying some very dark and dewless skies. Even though I only have my bino's. Sorry to hear the Central Coast is still dishing up crap skies. Here's hopping for next weekend

yep once again no clear skies. I am thinking of selling my SDM scope. I love it to death but jesus this weather and the drive time to get anywhere good is hard. I still dont have my new 12" mirror and don't expect to anytime soon if ever but have thought about selling my place in the mirror line too. Two years and $7,500 dollars later I have had the scope out a hand full of times. Maybe if I do this the skies will clear

The good weather will be here for the winter. Cool days, and cold, cloudless nights. Same as last winter. That is my prognosis.

I am extremely optimistic of experiencing great skies at Bretti over the New moon in February, for those going, will see you there (with bells on).
Will get the scope out this week and clean out the cobwebs etc
