Hi,

After tooo much new years cheer, and not being able to sleep got up at 3.45am decided to do some imaging.

lens 18 to 55 at 24mm at f/5.6
ISO 3200

3 x 30 sec frames stacked in DSS tweaked in Photoshop.

Happy New Year.

That is a great image Justin. The comet's tail seems to end beyond lambda Muscae, that makes it 33 degrees long.
It may even reach 39 degrees to theta Carinae.

Hi, Glen.

Thanks.

It's still putting on a great show, and visible to the unaided eye.
Certainly one of the great comets.

Cheers,

Justin

Nice one Justin. I woke about that time and went out the back to see it, - barely visible to the eye, but could just make it out, I didn't bother with the camera (though it was a perfectly clear sky FOR ONCE!)
Well done with your shot.

Michael

Great pic, nice tight stars. Very little light pollution evident, is it very dark where you are?

Hi, Scott.

Pretty good seeing most of the time. There is light pollution from Adelaide 120 kms to the south, with a glow visible, generally not a problem as it only comes up 5 degrees in the sky. I use it as a gauge for seeing, if there's a lot of dust in the atmoshere, it can creep up to 20 degrees.

Burn off's by farmers in autumn is the only other problem, but this only lasts a couple of weeks.

Thanks,

Justin.
