Just processed the shots from the morning after Boxing Day. Stacked 20 x 30 sec images.
Well you have to admit it is a great comet.

Thanks Carl. When I saw Ikea-Seki as a 4 year old, I seem to have a feeling no-one believed me... Then again I was telling them I saw a rocket blasting off and coming down.
Seeing this one on Christmas Morning and Boxing Morning was great too... but SO much nicer with company. This image gives me a good feeling and memories. Thanks also for pointing out the Zodiacal Light in the other thread... The stack has enhanced it somewhat.

Cool shot Tony - love the relaxed look of it with the people gazing up from the beach.

Thanks Mark, Liz and Paul. As i said earlier, it was soooo good to have company. I imaged it on Christmas Morning and Boxing Morning, and at 03:00 I thought it was not a good time to phone anyone to chat
It was fun on the beach, more so as this was the first time that Anne-Louise got to see the comet. Anne-Louise was shooting at the same time I was, when hers was ready again to shoot I knew that mine was done so I could race back and set it off again.

Seriously, would this comet be regarded as a "Great" comet? I don't know what the criteria should be, but some of the aspects of C/2001 W3 are extraordinary.
- Huge tail, visible soon after perihelion in the bright dawn sky
- Kreutz Sungrazer
- Huge tail
- Imaged in the daytime
- Huge tail
EDIT:
I've just looked up "Great Comets" on the net and Wikipedia has listed Comet Jovejoy - 2011 as the latest in a list of Great Comets.
Nice one Tony, love the whole scene !
Happy New Year to you and the family mate.
