February 2007: Found IceInSpace online and joined the forums.

THE ASTRONOMY BUG BIT ME IN THE B*TT SOMETHING FIERCE!!!

So I scoured the forums and internet for knowledge on the cosmos, what to buy, the best places to buy them, how to use the different devices, polar aligning, imaging........ .... .... ....

But the online folk said, "Calm down... take it slow. Buy some binoculars and a star atlas first. Learn the sky before making any big scope purchases.

So I listened and bought a pair of 15x75s and a star atlas.

A week later i bought a 5" scope and mount from Phil on these forums!!! ;) In the next few months I racked up eye pieces, a better mount, a 10" dob, the Argo Navis, another smaller set of binos and the Toucam (among other things)!!! I had to put a ban on new equipment or I would've run myself broke!

I even managed a trip to Ron's joint to use all this good stuff. Ron's was also the first place I fell in love with the 31mm Nagler. Can't remember who's scope I looked through, but I'm pretty sure I needed 2 hands to count the number of galaxies in the Nagler!!!

Then disaster struck!! I number of city moves, house moves, overseas trips, and a marriage.... Now my current house doesn't have a good place to setup the 5" scope, and don't seem to have time to setup the dob. Last time was a few months ago to show my wife Saturn (let me tell you it took me 10 minutes to get it in the damn view!!! How quickly I forget!!).

So now my equipment have a room of their own. Everything is kept neatly and nicely, covered so the dust can't get to it. I still have the Astro bug, so there will be absolutely no selling!!

So till the day we move to a house with a place for my hobby (you can bet it is a must have on the list), I will satisfy my astro needs with these forums, your posts, and your images!!

All the best for the New Year folks!

Wow Long time No see, :eyepop:
I wondered where you had got too
I hope you can find a place soon to get some use out of your scope and Astro Goodies :D
Keep in touch on here and we may even catch up again one day :D
All the best for the New Year :)
Cheers

PS I think the 31mm Nagler was Peter Robbins .
At the time I think he had the 20" Obsession scope :)

I also haven't used my telescope for a while, this year was very busy with uni (working on assigments all night), a pregnancy and a new baby, but sure things won't like this forever, my course will finish next year and my baby is growing up quickly....kind of see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Now the closest thing to astronomy I do is singing "Twinkle twinkle little star" to my dear Sofia.

G'day Ron,

Ah the 20" Obsession... I remember that beast! Yes, Peter sounds about right!

Mariposa: Doesn't it suck having the equipment there just patiently waiting for you to pick them up and use them? :)

Can't say the kids aren't worth it though. We're "planning" to have our first next year / 2013 sometime.
