28th December Comet Lovejoy

Oh boy...this was my 4th all nighter in a row. Feeling a bit punch drunk atm.
But it's worth it.
The first image was taken from the same hill Shel, Jase and myself used yesterday.
This one is stacked, 15 second exposures for a total of 4.5min, Nifty 50 lens, tripod mounted.
Interesting how there is shadowing on the edges on the bright parts of the comet.
The second is taken down lake side. The sky was brightening fast. Wish I'd gone down earlier.
There were some lads down there this morning yabbying, that is why the water isn't as still as it should be.

Lovely Jeanette, you have been lucky to be able to see it so many times, I have driven all over the countryside, but to date no luck, It will be a fading memory for me, but at least I have seen it from you guys.

Awesome shots J! If I had had it my way, I would have been out again last night too but alas, I have to work :( These are so stunning! The first shot is just jam packed with detail and the second shot is really nice with the reflections and the pin prick stars overhead against a brightening sky. Very beautiful :)

Jase and I are thinking we will head out again over the long weekend, I know it will be very very faint by then and perhaps not have as much of a tail to speak of but we thought we'd give it a shot!

Shelley! I think you will be lucky to see anything at all by the weekend :(,See Carl's post on here and FB re the the disintergration of the nucleus.
If you are going to take images I think your going to need some form of tracking as it will be so faint IMHO.:question:

If the weather holds I will be heading out with my Brother to Lake Moogerah or there abouts this evening. He has a good camera, so it will be interesting to see what he can capture.

I hope this is not the first and last chance I have to see this comet with unaided vision under dark skies. It is no longer visible to the naked eye from my backyard as I have to look towards the worst of the light pollution that Brisbane produces.

Leon - I hope you do get some images of this comet.

Looking back at my images from last night, I thought that the nucleus seemed more compact than the previous night worth of shots that I'd gotten from a few days before. I don't know if this has anything to do with the comet starting to break up and fading or not though. Just my thoughts. I'd say the comet lost at least a mag in brightness from Friday to yesterday. Anyone else agree?
