Has anyone here bought one of the new Losmandy StarLapse (http://www.losmandy.com/starlapse.html) mounts - they look pretty good for the price - a great way to get into widefield AP without spending big bucks, and you can 'convert' it into an 'almost' GM-8 down the track.
Some useful features for terrestrial timelapse also.

Given there is a photo by Peter Ward on the website, I would assume he used one to take it, so maybe he will know?

Ok...dealer hat off for a bit...
Scott Losmandy and I have been good friends for decades. While solving the problems of the world over many Margaritas the subject of a portable tracking mount would come up every few years...
...and finallly...Scott delivered a highly modified G-8...I suspect to keep me quiet :)
I tested the prototype last winter. It went to Ayers Rock and back, lived in a small camera bag, set up in a minute or two, didn't incurr an excess baggage charge...sad thing was... being a prototype the North-South drive direction was screwed up (since fixed...and then some.)
But it got way better....
Losmandy makes a line of Cine-PortaJib products, the accessories of which you can combine with two or more StarLapse drives to create a Dolly or Crab motion etc. with time lapse.
You can even add a Gemini II and have a full GoTo mount if you want.
I digress.
With a small AA battery pack, tripod and StarLapse you can track the stars...or comets (http://www.atscope.com.au/BRO/gallery123.html)...do a time-lapse pan at numerous rates with a RA head that was designed for a 8 inch Schmit-Cassegrain ( I love over-engineered stuff)
I own 2 Starlapse systems...all I need now is some decent weather!
Hope that helps

Hi Peter, do you sell them? I tried to find out how much it would cost to buy one from Losmondy, eg freight etc, but I have received no reply to my emails. I had wanted to buy one for Anne-Louise for Christmas. Going to have to wait awhile now I think, but I wish I had got a reply.
