Can anyone point me at someone who can supply a cable that will connect Gemini to a USB only laptop connection?

If you are talking Gemini I the connection is serial. You will need a serial to USB adapter.
I got mine from Astronomics but I'm in the US. I have no idea if you guys have a Losmandy dealer in Oz that would stock these.

Try the Binocular and Telescope shop. They are dealers.
Else make your own. The connections are in the Gemini manual and the parts are available from Jaycar.

Here's a note about making your own RJ22 to DB9 cable. (Yes I know this is actually a DE9 but no-one seems to know that.)
Then add a good quality USB to serial converter and away you go.

Many thanks for the input from everyone. Took me a while to organise the parts but finally cracked it today. The Sky X controls my Gemini easily.
Andrew, the cable PDF you posted was particularly usful. Ta

I tried a varient on this problem today. I bougght a double ended 9 pin serial cable and lopped off the redundant end then trimmed the cable to fit the narrow G11 jack. Worked perfectly first time and looks like a OEM cable. Much easier than trying to solder 9 pin serial plugs!
