i caught up with Scott Alder, Alan Meehan at strezlecki lookout this morning and captured this image with the point and shoot Canon G12. it stood out like the proverbials - lovely.
i hope to get some more shots christmas morning - the perfect astronomers gift

Yes, exactly what you said. I drove down to Mona Vale Beach at 3:30. Lights everywhere, eyes not adjusted and looked out the windscreen and said, No, that cannot be it - must be a stream of cloud. Spent 5 minutes eyes adjusting and looking around and, blow me down, that was the end of tail I was seeing, rising above low cloud and sea mist!
I was quite surprised at how bright it was to the eyes off suburban Sydney!

Great framing there, a good focal lentgh to show the true size of the comet.

i had a muck about with the cruddy data i have with the other camera - well its the memories that count - not the quality:rofl: it is a crop and it is out of focus - i forgot to turn off the autofocus:help: about 8 shots stacked - 40sec

I like it! The constellations are very distinct and it almost looks like relativistic bending of space-time :lol:
The best part about memories is that you can say the comet was this <-------------------> big! Oh wait, it really was! :rofl:

here is a shot from the boot lid with the 30D and the 70-200 lens @ 70. i need to stack the images but for a 6 sec shot its a joke:sadeyes:
i had this setup resting on a blanket on the opened tailgate lid:help:
