Hi all
It's xmas eve, so it's a good opportunity to thank our IceInSpace community for another fantastic year and wish everyone a great christmas and new year. I hope there's some exciting astronomical goodies to wake up to on xmas morning and some clear skies over the break to enjoy and use them; and to see the comet! :)
I usually do an end-of-year wrap and look back and highlight the important events throughout the year, but I've ran out of time to do this before xmas so it'll be one of the first things I do in the new year. Keep an eye out for it then.
I look forward to a very exciting 2012 with the IceInSpace community, with some very important astronomical events coming up including the Venus Transit across the Sun in June (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/63-658-0-0-1-0.html), and the Total Solar Eclipse in November (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/63-371-0-0-1-0.html). It's going to be a big year and I hope you'll join us for the journey!
I'd also like to thank the community for helping us reach a couple of fantastic milestones - we just passed 10,000 members on the IceInSpace Forum, and earlier this week we passed 2000 Likes on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/iceinspace). The numbers don't mean much on their own, but it does show we're doing something right and I just love to see the continued growth of our extended community.
Remember IceInSpace is here for you - to Inform, Educate and Entertain. Keep on sharing the love! :)
Have a great, safe xmas and happy new year! I'll be mostly offline until early January. See you all then!

Hi Mike and Everyone,
All the best to everyone for a very merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous new year that does *not* include an apocalypse on 21st December!
Thanks Mike & Terry for maintaining this site for us, we are all deeply in your debt for this meeting place and I also pause to also thank the moderators who I think generally do a terrific job that is vastly under appreciated.
Best,

Merry Christmas everyone, and happy birthday Erick!
Happy Christmas all!!
Openned up the wrapping to find a new QHY5 autoguider and a note saying a new scope (14" or 16" dob) is on the way once I decided where to put it! I am also told that a piggyback bracket is on order for putting the refractor on the SCT. Well done to my wife Mel!! She has really put in a big effort and a lot of research to work out what to get me! :)

Happy Holidays... boxing day now in Australia, still enjoying Xmas in the USA. I guess I'm one of the last in line to wish IIS'ers a safe and happy holiday.
An hour to go before the traditional Xmas meal of a 16lb turkey, stuffing with all the trimmings, cranberry sauce (for those who like cranberry :screwy:) and pumpkin pie :D ...
Bright sunny day here in Colorado, biggest disappointment for me is the fact that the angle for Lovejoy doesn't allow us to see it here in the North. Looks like the angle with respect to the sun means they rise together, so it's washed out in the dawn light...
Happy Holidays
