I had planned to go for a short drive but when I looked outside and saw clouds I nearly went back to bed. Luckily I stayed up and got a reasonable view in my backyard.

Here is my humble attempt from my crappy camera.

Well done. Wishing I went out now too :-(
Where did you take these from Michael?
It looked cloudy down here earlier so I went back to bed. (dohh!)

Crappy or not you still managed to capture it, well done! What Camera did you use? I was thinking of taking out my wifes Lumix P&S camera next time, if she lets me LOL..

Well done again on capturing a piece of history...

I am using a Fuji FinePix S5600.

F3.2
15sec exposure
I was using ISO 800 & 400. It can go to 1600 but even at 800 it's just way too noisy.

It's never going to match the great images that are being taken but get out there and take your own anyway.

Nice shots for a compact:)

It's not quite a compact (see here) (http://www.google.com.au/search?q=finepix+s5600&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=EBq&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=J2r4TvHWFIqgiQeStvTaBA&ved=0CEoQsAQ&biw=1366&bih=597) although many current compacts probably have the features that this one does.

It's a wannabe.

Nice one. Did you take any more photos? I had a quick go at stacking just the two photos you posted manually with Photoshop - it cuts down the noise a fair bit. If you had a few more frames, you could get a great image with a little bit of processing :)

Thanks Dave, I did take a few with the same settings but haven't tried stacking them yet. I have been trying different methods to improve them so maybe I should give the stacking a try.

I'm going to try and find a dark location tonight and will see if I can get more frames to stack if everything works out.

Went out past Murray Bridge last night to have another go. Despite the darker skies I found it harder due to the comet not being as bright.

I set about filling the camera anyway so I'd hopefully have something to work with.

Really struggling with how best to process these, this is what I have so far.

stack of 6 frames, 15sec, ISO1600
stack of 7 frames, 15sec, ISO400
