Hi all.

Here's my best Jupiter yet, taken yesterday morning between 4:30am and 6am.

I took 16 avi's in total, and i've processed all of them. They're all of similar quality, so i'll be making an animated gif as soon as I get some time. Here's the 3 best out of the bunch, avi's 1, 8 and 16, which is convenient, as it shows the start, middle and end of my session.

The top image shows Io to the left and Ganymede to the right, both resolved as discs and perhaps a hint of detail (at least, colouration) on Ganymede! There's swirling detail inside the GRS, and in the bottom right image, you can see detail inside Mini-Red, similar to Bird's capture the other day.

The seeing was 8/10, fluctuating a little but pretty consistent. I battled passing low cloud for the whole session, which meant I had to throw away an additional 4 or 5 avi's, and some of the 16 I kept had changing brightness thanks to thin cloud passing over.

The avi's were captured @ 5fps, gain and gamma were at 50%, shutter was 1/25. The brightness level was between 200-225 for the whole session (except for when the cloud passed over). Happy to report, no onion rings :)

Usual processing routine, split into R/G/B, ppmcentre, Registax (200 frames of each channel stacked), AstraImage LR deconvolution and final curves adjustment and USM in photoshop.

Comments welcome. I'll post the animation tomorrow, if I get time to work on it.

That's it, i am getting a CRT screen for any comparisons.

I have just sent the link to my wife's crt and thank god i was sitting down.

Congratulations on a world class image Mike. I have been saving up to say this to you, I am definately adding this to the comparison of world class images

The definition around the white ovals is crisp. There may be a few improvements to be made, but that will be subjective. Image scale and more sensitive camera is simply the next jump for any sort of improvement.

Ok, here is my comparison of this years best jupiters i have seen compared to Damian's barbados trip from last year.

It is an exercise to try and see where we are all at in terms of image scale.

Well done to all on this ensemble

I only have one question: Where is yours Dave?

Wow, If only I could...........

Pity their all not the same image scale.

I'll be sitting here for hours now, trying to determine the best in order from 1 thru 7!!

going thru them tonight to see if one of them qualifies.

the image scale is as posted on various forums. I will see if there are any more and then scale back the larger ones for some sort of comparison

obviously though a large image scale with great detail like damians is the aim, so I do not want to hide the beauty of a large scale capture by scaling back.

Stunning Mike, simply stunning!
I can't believe what you have got out of your setup! It's the result of true dedication to the task.... Pretty inspiring actually.
Thanks mate.

I agree Robby, great dedication Mike.
That's what Mike's like, he succeeds in whatever he sets his mind too.
Just look at IIS....!!!

Many thanks guys, much appreciated.

That's a nice collage DP - I think I prefer Bird's most of all in that image. It looks brilliant in the latest AS&T.

For fun and kicks, I reprocessed #16 avi at 1.5x mitchell upsize, and it held up fairly well.
