Imaging Newtonians - okay at prime focus?

Hello IceInSpace :-)

Does anyone know if the "Imaging Newtonians" sold by Andrews, Bintel etc have issues achieving focus (with a DSLR in particular)? I assume a coma corrector is still required with these scopes.

Are there any other important differences between these 'imaging' scopes and an equivalent visual newt?

I own a imaging newtonian and the only real difference that there is, as far as I can tell, is that for visual use you must use a extension tube. Luckily for you they generally come with it as part of the scope package. For taking photos get a Coma correcter and a Canon T-ring, these will screw into each other as far as I can tell. Focus wise try to have the body of the camera as close as you can to the end of the focuser is what I have found works.

To take basic photos, they should just work. but once you get past the Ive shot my first photo, generally there are a few things that you need to start modifying to take them to the next level!

Look though my site and you will see what my telescope is like started life as a dob, now it is more a astrograph than anything:thumbsup:
