Jupiter teaser - from the 12th

Hi guys.

Here's a more processed version of the Jupiters I took yesterday morning. I think these are among my best.

The left image is 100 frames of each channel stacked, the right image is 200 frames stacked. Can you see a difference, or do you have a preference as to which one is better?

Your feedback might help save me some time, so I don't have to process each of my 16 avi's with 100 frames and 200 frames :) The 100 frames has a 7/1.4 LR deconvolution, the 200 frames has a 7/1.7 LR deconv.

I've still got about 10 avi's to process, and then choose the best out of that for a single image, and then the animation to do! :eyepop:

I'm really happy so far though, there's tonnes of detail INSIDE the GRS, swirling storm. Some of the avi's from later have mini-red as well, and appear to have some detail in it similar to Bird's great shot from the other day.

Anyway feedback welcome. Hopefully more to post later when I get time to complete them all.

Hmmm. The one on the left is ever so slightly crisper to me, with perhaps slightly better contrast.

The one on the right...it looks slightly bulged/out of shape to me, or is it an optical 'confusion'?

The oblateness should be exactly the same in each image - Jupiter is bigger in the middle due to its speed of rotation, so it will appear a little bulged.

I hate dust motes, they're spreading on my ToUcam now and I had so many in one of the avi's I just processed, after stacking it even came out as a new "feature" on Jupiter up in the south pole area :)

Both are excellent images in their own right. Displayed side by side, I have a slight preference for the left hand image.

You are turning out some absolutely stunning Jupiter images – well done!

Hi Mike, ah the joy of quality avis, both a pleasure and a curse in the work to follow ;) . These are beautiful, you got some real quality detail here. :thumbsup:

I looked hard between the two, there may be the ever so slightly sharper view on the first.

One thing intrigues me is that you're running 7 iterations of LR deconvolution. If I did this it would be as dark as coal witha bright ring around the outside. About 4 iterations is the most I can ever push an image... there's something not quite right in my routines.:shrug:

Yes, I know its bulged in the centre due to its rotational speed, but what I meant was it looks slightly more bulged on the right than on the left.

Seeing no one else has commented on it, I'll put it down to my monitor...or my eyes!

OMGosh Mike,

They're fantastic.
I got a nice 3D effect by moving my head closer to the monitor and focusing in on these two, a third image appears with beautiful 3D like detail.

Here's one more teaser, from the last of the avi's of the morning. After this, it went behind trees high in the west (stupid backyard).

Needless to say, i'm very happy with this image! :jump:

Again, 100 frames (7/1.4) on the left, and 200 frames (7/1.7) on the right.

I've finished running all R/G/B avi's through registax, now I have to recombine all of them and apply the same processing, same colours etc so the animation looks good!

these are excellent mike, 100 frames for mine.

I have a possibility for an extension, whilst at bintel, I asked the question and roger had some plastic adapters that came out of cheap scopes, i just have to cut some plastic supports out and I will have a 100mm extension.

I will keep you updated and send to you to have a look once finished. Hopefully today - given all the rain i am having

This quality should be rewarded with bigger scale.

The detail in the equatorial band hosting the GRS is stunning and you've picked up some detail in the darker polar area I've never noticed before too.

A new standard perhaps :)

Don't wish to rob this thread but if you use an extension tube it sounds as though you gain image size. is there a downside like loss of light etc?:shrug:
