Any star party around christmas or EOY?

I would like to participate in a star party, to start off my involvement with astronomy.
Can anyone advise, if there are any been planned around Melbourne or within 50 km of the city?:)

Not sure about anything formal planned. The ASV had a star party at Heatcote last weekend but unfortunately the only thig that did not come to the party was a clear sky.

There have been a couple of us trying to arrange a bit of a group observing session north of Melbourne for a bit. We got all arranged but then got rained out on the day.

Maybe we should have another crack over the holiday period.
