Got bored and wrote this up today. It's a bit of a rush job so I'll add to it and sharpen it a bit as I have time.
I hope it helps.
Baz.

Hi Baz
what do you call "You will need a medium to large telescope"..can you give some examples?
also for this "If you want to get those tiny distant other galaxies, you will need a large-aperture telescope"
and thanks for the write up...I need all the help I can get

Something like a 120mm refractor at least, or even better, a 200 to 300mm reflector. I'm talking diameter of aperture.

That's an awesome article Baz! (got some chuckles out of it too :) )
Maybe we could ask a Moderator to make it a sticky?

what about a 8inch SCT?...I guess thats much the same as a 200 Dob but I gather they (SCT) let in less light..yes / no?

8 inch SCT will do it.
Maybe you should get bored more often Baz, excellent write up mate.

big one eh....:)
okay..i have a SE8
Have pre-ordered a LX80 mount
am now thinking whether to cancel that & get the ioptron ieq45...for the gps alone over the skywatcher neq6, or wait for reviews on LX80, before making a decision
cant tell if the lx80 has GPS or not?
what are bad points between the ieq45 V neq6 otherwise
(I did say I need all the help I can get)

Barry
I have been thinking:eyepop:
In your write up you refer to the likely hood of having to send the kids to medical school to be used as experimental subjects....mine will leave immediately if they new this was my intention, thus leaving me with little funds to spend...
would one of these cheapies

on a wedge on a decent manfrotto work for the Widefield Astrophotography section?
Actually they come with a tripod so the literature says..also next version up has wedge capabilities anyway
Dont confuse this with using the SE8 on it...I am thinking just a camera??
please give me an uppercut if you think its a stupid question

The goto software has to support using a wedge I think, so I'm not sure the one in the link would work.

GPS is really not needed, you can punch your co-ordinates in from your phone etc.

Thanks Peter
but more questions...
They say they have TRACKING ability....would'nt this work if on a wedge?

I've never seen one of those before so I can't comment. It looks very gimmicky and rubbish IMHO. I could be wrong, but it looks like a short-cut from a real scope or lens. I would biff that idea and try the conventional approach.

Thanks Barry. Nice one. BTW it is unlikely that I will ever be rich and famous.

It might not, you would have to find an owner and ask.
