Canon EOS 1100D or 500D

Looking a getting a new camera and was wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the canon 1100D or 500D.

One is a very bare bones entry level system, while, the other is a slight step up.

What will you be using it for? Will you be purchasing expensive L-series glass for it?

Either way, you cannot go wrong with Canon for realistic skin tones and excellent software support.
