Seeing through Skyglow

With everbody talking about weather and skyglow it has got me thinking about seeing.
So can anyone stand on there front or back verandah and see both small and large magellanic clouds.
Now i,m not trying to be smart or anything just wondering how many more people from rural towns can see through there skyglow.

Yep, i can in Sunbury but only when they are quite high. I have bloody Tullamarine Airport lights to contend with, and the trailer trash over the back - but thats another story. Why can't they switch em off occasionally. Maybe that's why Sydney has no decent airports too many stargazers in influential circles.

Like Peter, I can if they're high, despite city lights to the south east (10km away though). My night sky is progressively disappearing as more houses are built with the associated increase in street lighting.:sad:

True that, Phil. Like you, I can see the SMC and LMC, but only when it is higher. With new suburbs to the south, I too am losing more sky. :sadeyes:

From home in the middle of an industrialised valley I can see the magellanic clouds when I get out of the direct glare of streetlights - they're faint but I can see them with direct vision.

From my folks place in the fairly remote and small town of Orbost the clouds stand out like sore thumbs even with street lights - much darker skies.

I live in Haberfield 15 mins from SYD CBD,and I cant see either of them. I have a real problem with skyglow where I live.

Very obvious at my place.

Walk out the back and BANG. Cant miss them.

I live on the edge of a small country town in NE Vic (~2000 population). Last night there were clear patches of sky (a day late, thanks! :P ) and with the pretty-much full Moon in the sky I could easily spot the LMC. SMC was a bit harder, but there. On moonless nights the Magellanic Clouds are awesome.

I can see both LMC/SMC no problem even in Moon light. :D

With a cold southerly blowing to clear the air I can get them OK but only glimpses and hints otherwise .... and only because I KNOW they are there.
I hate to be trying to point them out to a newbie ...
