Hi all,
I hve seen many diffrent ways of making the red lights and torches that we all need and have, evrything from changing the bulbs and adding resistors to putting balloons over the end....But i reckon i have found the best easiest and cheapest way...
I tried to register an old holden some months back, they knocked me back on the brake lights being too fadded...so i went to the wreckers and priced the new cells...$80..., but the guy working there said "mate just get a bottle of lense dye"...hmmm, i thought, but i took his advice and got a 50 ml bottle for $7.50...i did the lenses and passed,....but i soon discoverd you can paint any glass or plastic surface with it...so now ive got torches and clip reading lights and headlamps and big dolphin lamps, all painted red...it works a treat...you need to add 2 or 3 coats but once its on, it stays on....its great...and a fraction of the price of buying specialist red led's....supercheap sell it and just as does just about evry auto shop...one bottle will last you a life time...
enjoy

Great!!

Now I can paint my white/red head lamp. Super bright double led red light for finding my way around in the dark an not breaking my neck (away from cranky visual observers of course  :poke::poke::poke: ) and deep dim red for when I want to do visual work and still read maps around other cranky visual observers

Yes, I discovered that about 20 years ago, brilliant stuff!

Another thing I used to do was paint the (low wattage) bulb with several layers of red nail polish, does the trick as well.

I'll try the lens dye - Asi-erectus, I find that nail polish tends to blister after a while (no doubt dependent on wattage though), but anyway I'm no longer using the stuff! (Been 20 years for me too, when boys were boys.....)

Sounds great, I will get some of that for our Astro Club torches, we have a Dozen or more that we loan to visitors & are forever replacing Celophane !
