View Full Version here: : It took 15 years of marriage but now I have...
15th Wedding Anniversary today and I received my first astronomy related gift from my wife - an ATIK 320E !! :)
What's more, she wants to do all the software/processing side. All I have to do is go outside and take the image.
Hmm... at this rate we might actually get on for another 15 years. ;)

Nice Grant! - oooh you lucky, lucky b.......
[ I can hear the sound of thousands of IIS men doing a "copy & paste" of this thread for evidence in preparation for their next anniversary.....;) ]
I seeded the thought of an Orion 50mm finderscope/guidescope and a DBK camera for Christmas with the wife yesterday so she can inform the relo's to see if they want to pool their "booze" money into an Astro present for me for once....
Fingers crossed!
Cant wait for your first Atik "Collaboration" shots to be posted.
Cheers
Chris

We celebrated 15 years in October - tried to show my wife an impressive view of Jupiter I had up on the laptop screen whilst imaging the other night and all she could say was "I prefer Saturn."
Congrats on your milestone,
Cheers,

My wife sidles past, takes a look at Saturn or Jupiter and goes, "meh!" and then keeps walking.....
Oh well.

Yeah I know but I can only afford 1
Congratulations Grant
We had our 18th in September. My wife keeps suggesting I hurry up and build the Obs, that way she doesn't have to get up at sunrise or earlier to help carry the scope in.
Cheers

You've all done very well.
I'm happy that your wives still like you enough to tolerate your hobby.
When was the last time you went shopping and didn't go 'meh'?
I have just got tacit approval for an NEQ6pro. but not til my birthday

10 Years coming up in Feb ( but it is my second attempt !! ) At least my pics (the few there are ) are appreciated and I don't get scowls of disapproval when I twiddle with new toys.
And I DO go shopping, even clothes stuff !!

If not, send her this way!
Seriously though, what a great gift, I love hearing about couples who both enjoy each other's hobbies.

We clocked up 20 years last month. When I brought the new 16" dob home, she took one look at the size of it and said " Sh*t!"
Then I showed her the Moon at first quarter, and she said "Sh*t!" again. When I showed her Jupiter through the old 6", she used to say " What, that little blob?" This time, it was a little bit more exciting.
This scope sold itself, really. But we've always supported each other's hobbies. The number of days I've spent yelling for her hockey team qualifies me for a new scope every five years, I reckon!

 My love has her own 6 inch f/8 dobbo ,home built by both of us , painted purple , by her of course ;) , nice scope to ,
Brian.
Well to put this into perspective: when she met me I was 20 and already had a 10" dob and had just bought a nagler. Over the 15 years until now I wasn't allowed to spend money on astronomy at all. I bought the CGEM with money that my grandmother left me. I also quit a perfectly fine career and lived in a village for years so she could follow her dreams of being a med scientist doing malaria tests in Zambia.
She has never been against astronomy or me observing, she just never wanted me to spend anything on it.
But now the idea of processing has crossed her mind, suddenly astronomy can be something "to do together". :)
I honestly never thought I'd see the day!! I am already dropped hints about a 14" or 16" dob for Christmas... (and no, I haven't told her we can image with it)...
I should add that we had a nice dinner and she scored a matching emerald/diamond necklace and emerald/diamond earrings that went with the colour of her favourite dress. Its not all one way here!! :)
Thanks too to Logan (Logieberra) from IIS who minded the kids!!!

Heading towards our 21st together. Five years ago she and the kids got me into astronomy in the first place by getting me an 8" dob for my birthday :)
Its getting even better... 11 days till Christmas and I find the last webpage used on the computer was a 14" GOTO dob... and I wasn't the last person on the computer! :D

Before I got married, I had a second-hand Tasco 76mm f/15 on an equatorial mount (15TE). In 2 weeks, I will have been married 24 years. In that time I have accumulated a Losmandy GM8 with Meade 10" SCT, 90mm Maksutov with chinese copy of a EQ3, NexStar 80SLT and lots of other bits and pieces including a lathe & milling machine. Works for me! Yes, it helps not to have too much in common :).
Now with the downturn in the economy, i.e. retrenchment in Jan 2010, I have to rethink what else I can still accumulate - but I am doing some serious thinking about the Vixen Sphinx SXW that is currently on offer ;).
