The swan nebula

Hi all, I have just finished to process another classic from last winter, the swan nebula (m17). Not so easy to keep an overall color balance with all those stars from the milky way, sometime too yellow, sometime to blue..:question: however I hope the final result will be pleasant to you.

This is a Ha (290m) R (80m) G (80m) B (90m) composition with my usual setup. Hope you will like it.

Stunning image. But the zoomify version looks really crunchy and hard, and oversharpened. The one on glittering lights looks beautiful!

Thanks Mike! I understand that it may be a problem with zoomify, several people dislike it and I see that images with it tends to be much darker that they are in reality. I have changed settings in my website, now ALL images are visible at original res directly on glitteringlights.com.

Can you please tell me if this version (original full res is at http://www.glitteringlights.com/Images/deepsky/13667287_7Mtr58#1581035500_jc7cpcM-O-LB, please wait the full image is loading) looks better or if what you are referring to is the processing and not the display?

Wow, what a beautiful vista. Stunning.

I agree with Mike though you are right at the edge of sharpening there.
Its a fine line and you're on the edge. Personally perhaps just a fraction oversharpened but that is merely an opinion and the overall image is so aesthetic its minor. The sharpness is more colour contrast in the reds in the knots in the nebula. It looks best at a medium size. That level of sharpening is best on a galaxy and nebs look a bit better with a very slightly softer look. This of course is total nit picking of a spectacular image.

Thanks Greg for the comment. It seems I pushed this one to the limit, I was pretty much interested to dig out all the details I was able to see in particular on the core of the swan but perhaps this was a bit too much :) I will very possibly redo it and keep it a bit softer, suggestion taken :thumbsup:

I think this looks great Marco, for a HaRGB it has come together very nicely. It's a big field with so many tiny colourful stars. The star field looks lovely and the detail in the Swan is quite good too.

A great job in my opinion.

Great stuff Marco....
Never been my fave, and gave up on it years ago...
But this is wonderful.
Super rich colours (tastefully executed)...
The neb stands out nicely with the well blended Ha component.
Stars look super tight... looks like a nice scope!

Mmm, might have to reconsider my attitude towards it and have a go myself if the weather ever improves :)
