Took this last night with the Meade 12inch SCT, and a crummy webcam. Im pretty sure the crud at the top of the planet is some dust blobs on the sensor or imaging train. I was so happy to have the damn thing in the eyepiece I just captured away :)

Adding another one that was processed slightly differently.

Tim, the second processing is much better than the first. You are obviously onto something there, keep it up.

I think the artifacts you have could be due to image compression -- try experimenting with different codecs on your webcam. Maybe try lower frame rate and or smaller image size.

Nice work for a first Jupiter.

Very nice start Tim
I think the marks you are referring to are real detail as I think they appear in my image as well (opposite the GRS)
By the way, do you have any details of thr "crummy webcam" or the capture settings:question:

second process is nice Tim. Agree with Rob, the crud at the top is part of the planet. Be careful, this type of imaging is addictive. Regards Ray

From memory - I used 1/33 of a second, 20 frames per second. Little bit of gain.
