How different is Jupiter now from the image in your Avitar !

Thanks for sharing.

Nice image Rob. What time was it taken? I gave up at around 2300, couldn't get anywhere near that amount of detail.

Thanks Allan,
I remember a time (not so long ago) when I thought that the only thing on Jupiter to see was the GRS :rolleyes::screwy:

You're going to hate this Ivan, but it was about 11pm

Still I think the seeing around here is quite affected by local factors. I have a friend at Sellicks Beach who had a rotten night. I am at West Croydon, where it was bad when I started early in the night, but slowly improved as the night wore on :)

A most creditable result Rob, a top all-round effort.

It was a nice night out here as well. I had an observing night out of town on a claypan, had about 30 people turn up and Jupiter looked excellent, the barge in the NEB really stood out.

Well done.
Regards

Really facinating capture, Dig all the storms off the GRS, Splendid detail and Top processing etc , ,

Thanks Bob. I was also interested in what was happening in that region. But pure luck to catch it, as there hasn't been any seeing above awful since.:(

How often do you have your "public nights" ?

Nice image Rob. What was the wind like over your way?

Thanks Michael
The wind was not too bad but some gusts were moving the scope quite a lot.

Over the last 4 years I have really been immersed in my planetary imaging but I still try and organize a few observing nights through the year. It really depends on the level of interest at the time. Our hospital is a training hospital with medical students coming out here from various Universities on rotation and as a body they have shown much interest in astronomy as one of the things they can do while out here at Broken Hill. Last Friday night about 30 of them came out to observe and I have had considerable positive feedback from them. I think it is very important to try and raise the profile of astronomy at the community level and I really enjoy introducing people to astronomy.
