Hi all
Ive not been online here as much as I'd like, my mums really unwell with unexplained migraine headaches, vomiting, unable to keep food down and weight loss. We are going to get a 2nd opinion from another doctor, as our family doc seems too complacent for my likes, people shouldnt develep severe headaches with nausea on and off for 2 weeks where none happened before that in her life. Anyway I hope the new doc this afternoon can offer more help.

Good luck with the new doctor, Scott. Good GPs are not all that easy to find unfortunately.

Hi Scott,
Nothing is worst than a loved one being unwell. I hope you find a good DR and if not, keep persuing it.

Best of luck and I hope it all turns out ok for you and the family.

Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts. We saw the other doc and he agreed it needs to be investigated and agreed she should go to hospital, and gave us a letter to give to Casualty, we then took her there right away to the John Hunter Hospital. They admitted her, so far shes had a CT scan that seems clear, and has elevated blood pressure. One of the docs there said thats probably the cause of the headaches, and is investigating whats causing it as she does not have a history of high blood pressure. Anyway we feel she is in the best place to find out whats wrong with her and hopefully, fix it.

Good to see you found a pro-active doctor Scott. Best advice is to get everything checked out by the experts rather than the wait and see approach. Sounds like things are on track and hopefully all turns out well.

You don't need to have a history of high blood pressure to come down with it. Mine was always a bit on the low side until about a year ago, and I'm 49. The meds they have these days are not too expensive for it, and really do keep it under control.

Hope it's nothing too serious with your Mum. Prayers are coming from my side of the planet too, Scott.

Hi Scott,

It sounds like 2 weeks you would rather forget! Looks like you might be getting to the cause of the matter. I hope it is nothing too serious and it all works out for you mum ASAP.

All the best.

Again, thanks all to your kind support. She seems in better spirits today, even eating some food at last (though we would always like to see her eat more). They are doing urine and blood tests, and hopefully will get to the bottom of it. Yes Mum knows many other people on blood pressure medication, and it may be time for her to be on them too. The John Hunter is a large fairly modern hospital, the beds in her ward even have phones where we can ring to direct to her bed, not having to go through the switchboard.

I do feel good that she is having a battery of tests that outside would probably take a week or more to book in and get done.

Thanks again everyone, I will keep you informed.

Hi everyone, good news, she is back home. we picked her up late thisarvo.

She had Acute renal Failure, which caused the high blood pressure and headaches. The consultant Dr there says the kidney function test results are back to normal now.

Her own doc didnt pick up she had Acute renal Failure, all the silly bugger
did was give her pain injection, that will hardly settle hypotension caused
by Acute Renal Failure. Anyway we will present this paperwork to her new
doctor Dr Collis ASAP next week. She has to be booked in for this Renal
Arterey Duplex scan to see if her kidneys are getting enough blood flow. The Hospital Dr said that may be causing the problems and in most cases is treatable.

She feels actually better then even before she got sick, so it looks like
she had the kidneys not working right for some time. She is on new medication that is helping the kidneys and blood pressure and it certainly seems to be working.
