Webber Wins Brazil F1 GP

Mark Webber won IMHO the most boreing GP race of the year:rolleyes:
Even the race Commentaters where begging for rain to put some interest into the race :shrug:
I would nearly say that Red Bull gave the win to Webber as a consellation prize:question:
A Car that all year sails around the track breaking record after record all of a sudden has a gear box failure, but still manages to stay well in front of other cars that had no problems and still couldn't catch him :question: Mmmmmmm.
I Didn't even hang around for the presentation I was so disgusted:mad2:
Not because Webber won , but the cinical way it was contrived:mad2:
Roll on next year when hopfully there will be more closer racing:prey::prey::prey:

Rather than staying up to 3am to watch the race in Brazil, I decided to record
it instead.

Then I made sure I didn't read or watch any news all day so I would not know the
result in advance.

A fantastic win for Mark and a third place for the 2011 driver's championship. :thumbsup:

Sebastian Vettel's record breaking year certainly seemed to leave the sense that
one is witnessing the early stages of an all-time-great in the making.
In 2011, there was Vettel and then there was everybody else.

With a ban on blown diffusers in 2012, it will be interesting to see what new tricks
the designers come up with.

But based on the 2011 result, you would walk right past the Ferrari dealership,
right past the McLaren and Mercedes dealerships and and who would have
thought the best F1 car would be built by an energy drink company. :lol:

The RB7 was certainly a winning design.

Hi Ron,

Sorry, I missed seeing your post and cross-posted but just as well I didn't see
it earlier as I tried to avoid learning the result until I watched the recording of the race.

I was listening to Vettel's gear changes when they had the vision and audio from
his car and he definitely was short shifting in the lower gears. But he certainly wasn't
doing it much and where his engineer had to warn him several times to short shift
seemed to say Vettel was intent on pushing it as hard as he could get away with.

But it was pretty clear that he was going to have to let Mark pass.

Vettel was definitely trying to channel the late Aryton Senna where you may recollect
he came second in the '91 Grand Prix at Interlagos where despite the gearbox problems
towards the end of the race he somehow managed to get
around that curly track with its hills but barely changing gears.

Anyway, Vettel certainly did better than Hamilton whose gear box also gave
problems before it went 100% fail.

So like the failure of the tyre for Vettel in the first few hundred meters at Abu Dhabi,
his luck simply ran out. Don't forget the RB7 was not all smooth for Mark at the
beginning of the season. In particular he never seemed to have much luck with
the reliability of the KERs nor the dual clutch at the starts.

What was also telling was that Mark won this year's "DHL Fastest Lap Award".
Each race where a driver chalked up the fastest lap of the race he would score
a point. Mark had already won it at the end of Abu Dhabi. Second was Hamilton
and third was Vettel.

So Mark isn't exactly slow and when one considers that Button would have loved
to win Brazil but was 27.6 seconds further back down the track to claim third,
Red Bull wasn't pulling any favours for anyone.

Finally! Well done to Webber. He is a capable driver and has no troubles recording the fastest lap times during his races, it's just bad luck that seems to thwart him. What the hell was that pit stop on the final lap at Abu Dhabi all about?

Well done Webber. It was a bit boring. I think this best move was Alonso around the outside of Button into turn 3.
With a bit of luck next year will see other cars fighting for a podium spot. Only 5 drivers have finished on the podium in the last 51 podiums.

I sat up and watched the first half then went to bed, made sure not to listen to any news/sports updates so as not to see the result only to open up IIS and there it is "WEBBER WINS BRAZIL F1 GP". NOT HAPPY.

Could we please please please not post the results to such things in the topic title.

I do try and watch all F1/Moto GP races live to avoid see the results before I can watch the recording, but when the races are on this late one must goto bed. I'm sure others must feel the same way after reading some of the previous posts about avoiding the news etc.

I'm surprised at the hints that Webber was gifted the win. That didn't occur to me at all watching the race. Apparently Seb's RB7 dropped a bit of fluid off the start, the commentators said his car sounded sick, he was short shifting, and James Allen saw in-race telemetry showing increasing temperatures.

I also think Webber is just driving better on these tyres (finally!), and has the 2010 start/clutch system reinstalled.
