These owls are fairly small as owls go,but still a very good hunter-this one had just finished eating a scaly breasted lorikeet.I could see the yellow/green feathers stuck on his sharp talons.

Fairly lucky to get him sitting out away from tree leaves etc.He stayed out on this limb and I managed quite a few frames. Here is a couple.

Hope they are of interest-thanks for looking, cheers Chris

Great shot Chris. When I used to work in the Bananas with a head torch (to avoid the heat) I used to encounter these and Barking Owls. They were hunting the feathertailed gliders which also inhabited the patch.
I've also wondered what else preyed on Lorikeets I have seen Peregrines chasing them but never Owls.

Your shots are spectacular as always Chris. Were these taken with your 400mm f5.6 ? Handheld or some sort of tripod?

Typically what settings do you use for your birdie shots? I've just started taking some with my 70-200 f4L IS, and I'm only just beginning to understand how tricky it is to get a decent shot. Having said that, the 400 will get you up a lot more close and personal than my 200mm, but hey, you have to start somewhere !

Cheers,

Beautiful captures Chris, but for you mate that is pretty natural, man I have to get one of those lenses one day.
