nice..i got some shots of the same neb a few weeks back...my exposures were 9 seconds, and 57 stacked...interesting to see the colour diffrence with the shorter exposures..second image is ps'd a bit..

The Keyhole Neb again as i was disappointed with last shot was 15 frames 42.7 sec exposures stacked.

nicee shot you took starcrazzy. post more DSI shot. have you tried increasing it to more than 9 sec? what program do you use to stack the pics? want to see what people can do with the DSI :)

here's a couple from when i first got the dsi...my problem is polar allignment...the most i can manage is abut 12 seconds b4 the image starts to trail..the tarrentella neb with some tweaking in photoshop...a small cluster( im spewin i didn't record which one it was.:(...beginner....but its near the tarrntella)..and the last on is the crab nebula..M1..it was quite a difficlt subject...im not sure if i had the settings wrong that night or something, but this was the best of a string of quite poor images....its a steap learning curve..i just use the dsi stcking software...you almost nailed the eta carina hey..im am deffinatly no expert, but perhaps if you reduce the gain slightly so your stars don't burn out so much....still...a hell of a lot of information in the shot...are you useing a focl reducer??
cheers

im not sure starrcrazy, but with your first tarantula pic, there are heaps of hidden details. here's your pic roughly tweaked in ps (if you don't mind :) ). add abit of colour you can make a really impressive pic out of it.

not at all...thats fantastic...what tweaking did you do??looks alot better then my tweaking...hehe...yes,m there is tons of info there hey....i am very impressed with the dsi so far, the only thing is that it does seem to overcompenate for red and the coulour is difficult to get right...but your ps'ing(no pun intended) seems to compenste for that...thankyou...have saved the image (with your tweaking)..interested to know what you did.

no problems starcrazzy. glad to help you out.
open ps --> image --> adjustments --> levels
slide the histogram from the 3 sliders to bring out the details :)
reduce noise from filter --> noise --> reduce noise

Play around in all available options in adjustment to add colour etc.. i normally spend a few hours tweaking my images in ps. taking a pic of objects with the dsi is the easiest part but ps is another skill which everyone needs to master and im not one :P

here's a quick 5 minute job in ps on your pic. to make it even better, you'll need to spend more time on it. It takes me a few hours to do one pic :P maybe im slow.

exellent...thankyou ezy..its very interesting for me to note that the amount of detail doesn't neccasarilly increase with the exposure time...my max to date has been 12 seconds, but i stack a lot more images...the dsi software seems to handle this quite well...some guys at my club save them as fits(i think) and fill up there hard drives with one picture, and use the editing software that comes with autostar...but the results aren't that much better(if at all) then useing the allign and combine method...but one of the best images taken with the dsi that i have seen is of m42, and stacked 120 2 second images...is a curious thing that somuch detail can be obtained by such short exposures...i have the polar allingment thing sussed out now, so my next batch will be interesting to compare...cheers ezzy..

no probs starcrazzy. I normally save my pics as .tif in envisage with 'save all uncombined images'. I stack in registax and edit in ps cs2. might try lowering my exposure time to 15-30sec and stack more next time :) took me 2 hours to do my polar alignment last night. once that's done mark your mount so you don't have to do it again ;)

forgot to answer your question before, with ETA Carina, i had to burn the stars abit to bring out the details. not quite sure exactly how to bring out the details without burn stars. not using any focal reducers. just my tele, eq6, dsi and my lappy.

btw, what file format do you select? .tif, fits etc and what shoot mode? eg: normal operation, save all uncombined etc.. etc
thanks

Ezy - you're really cracking through the images! Good on ya, must be good fun rolling through all the different objects.

Roger.

Yes great pics, I once had a play with Eddies DSI on his big scope, its a good little camera, able to take deep sky pics even from Dobs.
