Exciting time having never capturing this before, bom showed clear skys at 0200hrs:cool: With out introducing a heap of noise, just a quick m42. The cloud coverage up here in the NT is somewhat a plague to say the least, my session was cut short. As this was the 1st time with this DSO, I experimented with all types of iso's and exposures to get the best. A file full of mixed capture, but in the end 1x 5min 1x 3min 4x 1min 5x 15sec all @800iso.(sensor temp 37 degrees) Processed in AP CS5.

With the help of a Newton 8" f/5, baader MPCC, Canon 550d on a EQ6 pro.

Thanks for having look.

Excellent first go at M 42. If your sensor was really at 37 degrees, then that's an amazing result. Noise is under control and no overblown highlights. On my monitor the colour balance is leaning a bit too much towards the blue and magenta side. Still a capture to be proud of.

Thanks Graeme for the advise, this is what the file said for the 5min ex LIGHT_300s_400iso_+38c_2568stdev_20 111120-01h10m44s838ms using backyardEOS. I'm really thinking of cooling this dslr.

Really nice Daniel.

If I was going to be a picky blighter I'd say the core pics are a tad green, and a bit too much blue for the rest of it. Unmodded DSLRs are always going to look a bit more green/blue than CCDs, but it's just a different presentation.
