Ok,not the best quality, really a very quick 'grab shot',lots of awful high cloud astronomers love to hate.Heard it at 5 pm,blast-I knew what it was, threw tools aside and quickly lined him up.Surprised I pulled as much detail as what came out-I can see the flag, and all the prongs of the wing.

Rather unique capture-not likely to ever really get a shot at this again-without leaving home.

Hope this is of interest-Cheers Chris

Heard someone refer to it as Air Force 1.1

Great capture Chris, although you could have at least included the moon somewhere in the shot :P

Nice capture of a historic event. I thought "Air Force One" referred to whichever aircraft the president happens to be on (either jumbo, helicopter, etc) rather than a specific plane*?

* Caveat being that my expertise in this area is limited to movies, TV and Wikipedia :D

Hi Chris

We saw this taking off from Brisbane airport yesterday when we were returning from a day trip to Tangalooma on Moreton Island. As the ferry was approaching the mouth of the Brisbane River, the captain announced the position of the aircraft and provided the explanation that it was the command and control centre for the current visit and not the one used in ferrying the President around for this trip.

Good capture!

Cheers

Not a problem!-if he had of come over last week similar time,I got three planes with moon in pic.

Not sure of nomiclature of yank planes either, but whatever the correct name is,its big and powerful, and rather very unusual to see.

Dennis did you get any images? I thought you or StephenM may have been able to get some.

Cheers Chris

Hi Chris

No photographs – on this occasion I was content to just sit and watch from the rear deck as the aeroplane circled overhead.

Cheers

Yes,you really do not 'enjoy' the rare event, when one is so busy with settings etc etc.Its good just to sit back and let the eye take it in.

I once read in a photography forum, about a tog going to shuttle lunch and asking what settings bla bla bla. But a anothe rtog said it such a rare thing to see -just enjoy it by yourself and by a post card etc.

I think there is a lot in that.

Or, if you know your equipment, your fingers do the thinking while you enjoy the event.

Nice picture. I like the composition.

Rare event, indeed!

Nice shot Chris,

Hi Dennis,

Thanks for the information and this makes sense.

Air Force 1 carrying Obama has an all-blue head livery and the aircraft in Chris's shot
is of a different aircraft compared to the one reported here -
