Hi David,
:welcome: to IIS. Plenty of helpfull people here so If you have any questions just ask and someone will be able to help. Even if you think it is a really simple/dumb question still.
If you live north of Melb. some of us are heading to Mernda on Friday night around 9pm. Details here (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=82878)
I too am a total newbie when it comes to viewing the heavens and had my first light Friday night just gone. I saw Jupiter and 4 of her moons for the first time before the clouds put a end to things.

Hi David
Snake Valley is one of the best camps around. friendly relaxed and lots of interesting gear to look at.
Not sure if there are any bunkhouses left but there is lots of camping space.
I will be there with a 12" dob and a pair of biggish binos. Paddy should have his 16" and there will be a lot of imaging gear as well, so come on up.
It is about half an hour west of Ballarat so easy to get to.

Hi David.
Yes, you are more than welcome to come on up to Snake Valley Astro Camp (I live here and have only seen 3 snakes in 10 years!, the name comes from the shape of the creek).
You can book in and throw up a tent and stay for up to all 4 nights if you want (as already mentioned, see SV Camp thread (http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=80301)).
If you are unable to book in to stay at camp you are welcome to come up for a visit and see all the gear and chat with everyone
Whichever way, you will be made welcome
Have a look at our Camp website too: http://astronomycamps.bravehost.com/home.html
and check out all the ugly mugs in the 'PAST CAMPS' page
Oh and dont forget jens spunky 12" goto Johnny will be there too :D
Yes David you should go you will love it hope to see you there

Well, it's real name in Aboriginal is Nimbuck, but the white fella named it after the shape of the creek as a snake in a valley.
