View Full Version here: : Att: Snake Valley Campers - Name Your Targets
:hi::hi:
What are you hoping to achieve this camp ?
Imagers have you got a particular object that your going to tackle ?
Observers what are you planning to see that you havnt seen before or love to see again?
Well for me i plan on not getting much sleep at all
Having lots of laughs  with some awsome company
But my main mission is i would love to get a pic of jupiter before i leave camp and im not leaving till ive got one
So my question is... is there any planetry imagers that will love to spend some time with jen to achieve this  And to learn how to do startrails properly and widefield shots of the nightsky ;)
Amd im on the prowl to finally decide what nice eyepieces to get to compliment Johnny so keep an eye on ya eyepieces guys ;)
Oh and if anyone has a 5xpowermate that i could borrow or a decent barlow while im there that would be greatly appreciated :P thanks THAT IS ALL :D
Whoah i think im up for a busy weekend :) wooohoooo bring it on see you all real soon :love:

Jen, I'm having a crack at messiers with my dad's old binos :) so far I've only seen seven (!), so 93 to go :eyepop:
Pls have a spare seat when you're playing with planetary images so I can come see too!! Same goes for star trails :)
Also can't forget the Horsie Hunt!! I plan to tag along for that, whether I will be disappointed or not :)
Your most welcome Mish you can play with Johnny too
Yes the horsie is a bit of a challenge :P

Still putting together a list of targets. Main aim is to try out new binos (15x80s) that should arrive here tomorrow and a couple of other bits.
Will have another try for M76 but not hopeful.

I will be doing 'Live' video observing presentations all night every night as the weather permits of as many objects as possible.
But the most obvious ones on the list will be Lagoon Neb, Trifid Neb, Tarantula, 47 Tuc, NGC 1962, 1966, 2018, 2077, 1968, 253, 55, 1365, Fornax Galaxy Cluster, Helix Nebula, Grus Galaxy Trio, M42, Running Man, Abell 400, M33, M74, M78, Abell 194, Carina Neb, Running Chicken, NGC 6744, Horsehead, Flame Neb, Rosette Neb, Abell 539, etc.
and pretty much anything anyone wants to go look at
I don't know if I will be Broadcasting any 'Live' internet Astrocasts from Camp yet.

Targets? I mostly want to put faces to some names, e.g., Ken James (aka `Dragon Man') and this talkative (in purple no less!) "astro chick" who models for pictures in PJs and flippers while standing by a lake. :D I can only visit for Saturday afternoon/evening so I'm there for the social angle as much as anything. However, if it's clear I'll be out on the field doing some binocular observing.
Not telling you my targets Jen :P
But here is a photo of Jen in pj's:rofl::rofl:

Oh yes I want the try and catch a fish in that big fat lake.

:lol::lol:
Nice guys :clap::clap:
:D sounds good Ken if you have a little patio heater up there with your little set up you will have company with you up there all night long

I must have a good look at Thor's Helmet (NGC 2359) this camp.
And it will look just like this:-

I wish :)
And I'd better try for some of those face-on spirals I haven't finished compiling :help: http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=73251

Not much in the way of targets, maybe some LMC globular clusters and comet C/2010 G2 (Hill) in the wee hours if it's bright enough. Just lots of cruising.
That's for my scope anyway. Now for other people's scopes I've got a huge list of targets......... :P
Cheers -
Targets for this camp include (in roughly chronological order):
1. packing the truck without forgetting anything (well, too much of importance anyway)
2. getting away from Melbourne at a reasonable hour on Friday
3. begging someone to help me align my scope (this job normally falls to danielsun so will available to some other lucky bugger this time!)
4. learning the dark arts of drift aligning from John G
5. getting alignmaster and EQMod working
6. some widefields/startrails - maybe Jen will be my startrail buddy...?
7. some subs of something my ED80 will capture nicely (that isn't M42!) - maybe lagoon
8. coming up with a decent excuse to take Monday off
9. laughing

Based on recent weather we are all likely to get a real good look at "The Cloud Nebula"

LOL Niko
Will teach you how to use AlignMaster, a lot quicker.
Cheers
Nice plan Niko/startrail buddy :lol: oh im sure you can think of some excuse to take monday off tell them cause Jen said thats going to be the best clear night
Shhhhhhhhhhhh.............. no cloud nebula viewing at Snake Valley is allowed :poke:

Had an email from JohnG re comets, and I suppose the info might be useful to other imagers/observers -
Not much in the comet line on display now unfortunately. The brightest would be C/2010 G2 (Hill) at around mag 11. It's a middle-of-the-nighter, but it will be fairly low in the north, maximum altitude about 24 deg at 1:45am from Snake Valley next weekend. See here for some images - on the first link, the most recent is at bottom. The second link is from the master comet imager Michael Jaeger:
http://www.astronomie.be/alfons.diepvens/cometimages/pages/C2010-G2-Hill.html
http://www.cometpieces.at/images/phocagallery/2010g220111022ut2147sec6x300.jpg
Gehrels is still around at about mag 12 but I reckon it's a bit underwhelming! 49P/Arend-Rigaux will be rising in the east after 2am - it's a tiny comet around mag 13. Images here (scroll down for most recent):
http://www.astronomie.be/alfons.diepvens/cometimages/pages/49P-Arend-Rigaux.html
73P/Schwassmann-Wachmann is a toughie, around mag 13+ in the west after evening twilight at 18 deg altitude and setting. It's also deep in the Milky Way. But there have been very few observations or images taken of it this apparition because it has stayed low and has not been visible at all from the NHem.
Comet ephemerides available here:
http://www.minorplanetcenter.net/iau/Ephemerides/Comets/index.html
That's about it, barring a new discovery!
Cheers -

Thanks Rob, I'll plug Hill into the Argo.

OK, I've cleared out the User catalog of the Argo and uploaded 92 face-on spiral galaxies. I expect I'll go crazy trying to see them. Follow the sound of gentle cursing of my pathetic eyes if you want to find me in the dark!
 well im guessing there isnt any planetry imagers going to SV i havnt had a shout out yet for some lessons and a 5x powermate just yet :help: Dam all you deep sky imagers thats stuff is just way too hard LOL

Rob,
feel free to take the controls of my scopes ..... again.
I'm always amazed at what my LX90 can do when somebody else that knows what they're doing drives it :P
Also got a novices imaging set-up that I'm trying to learn. Sounds like I might be looking over Niko's shoulders whilst JohnG's giving him some pointers.;)
Niko and Jen - I'll be up for that. Been planning to do some star trails for a while, but haven't had time when the weathers been good enough
:thumbsup: great stuff Paul :D might get some practice at doing some cloud trails too
Ok it looks like we might have to see who can get the best cloud pic on Friday night
