Wonderfully detailed images of AR1339, AR1341 & AR1342

Hello,

The spell of good seeing above the skies of Brisbane continues, producing some wonderfully detailed images of decaying sunspot AR1339 and the mid-disc regions of AR1341 & AR1342.

Using a full aperture solar filter made from Baader astro solar film 3.8 allowed me to use an exposure of 1/2000 sec, which further contributed to the “freezing” of the Earth’s atmosphere, or at least the slender column of air rising above Brisbane.

With temperatures hovering around 30°C the equipment was running a little hot, not to mention the operator!:)

Thanks Al – at these focal lengths we are at the mercy of the seeing. Like you, I saw what appeared to be moments of very stable seeing on the Notebook screen, but from all the avi’s I recorded, only in these two did the seeing deliver the clarity that I saw on screen.:shrug:

I imaged the full set of active regions that you posted and for the other groups, I resolved less detail than you managed to extract from your images of those same regions.:P

I use AVIStack V2 and of late, I have found myself outsmarted and outperformed by the batch-processing algorithm, where the default values have produced a final image slightly superior to my manual efforts in AVIStack V1.8. First they replaced men by machines and now we are being replaced by algorithms!:lol:

Great shots Dennis thanks for the pics. I have read on other forums that Avistack seems to be very good for WL solar but I am sure there are many other factors that also come into play.

I have found that Registax 5 and 6 seem to crash on my PC whereas AVIStack seems to work okay. I haven’t bothered investigating the cause of these crashes due to having an alternate app such as AVIStack, so I haven’t been able to explore the latest developments in Registax, which is the father of all sorting/aligning/stacking and finishing programmes.:thumbsup:

A very high level of detail Dennis, really dig the 2nd image, it looks so 3D around the main spots center. awesome ! !
