So we now have 2 species of Rhino declared extinct in the wild this year.
The Javan Rhino in Vietnam was declared a few weeks ago (though this article says "possibly"), and now the Western Black in Africa. They aren't sure about the Northern White at this stage.
I'm disgusted and ashamed of ourselves as a race.

Definitely a sad state of affairs and this will only increase as we continue to destroy their habitat.

And all so their horn can be used as a Viagra substitute that doesn't actually work.

And then to think that a rhino horn is made of keratine (the same as our hair).
Let them eat eachothers hairs and save the rhino's.
And yes jj people are discusting greedy animals, but humans will never ever change.

jJjj,

That article was the last thing I read about before going to bed last night. It was really quite saddening. The news.com.au article had a picture of a baby and mum rhino, which made the article even more touching -- they are such incredibly beautiful animals. :(

Unfortunately, there's not much we can do about the plight of the Rhino, I hate to see animals caged in zoos, but zoos are proving to be the last safe place of refuge for these magnificant creatures.

Man's greed, particuarly corporate greed, is destroying the planet inch by inch (William will probably disagree with me on this), if you happened to watch Four Corners last monday you would have been horrified at what the coal seam gas industry are doing to the marine environment around Gladstone with the blessing of both State and Federal governments.

The old adage think Globally Act Locally is the only way to make a difference, Sign petitions, join Get Up, write to your local member, donate to an environmental organisation, you may not be able to help the Rhino, but you may just save our local fauna from extinction.

While i echo everybodys plight and dislike for what has happend, not everything lasts for ever human accelerated or not. What happend to the dinosaurs? just for one example. Tomorrow they could find the killer blow that wipes everybody out, will you be worried about a few animals being wiped out when everything you know, everbody you love in a instant dissapears?

Does this mean that we should do nothing about it. definately not those who yell loudest get heard! so keep thumping everybody to change human perception and habit.

Sad... Black markets; greed, poachers pride, human poverty, plight of survival, starvation, destruction of land.. It's all in Africa.

Actually, all those exist outside Africa too.

One more in a long list of man made extinctions. Homo sapiens, sapiens are like a virus on this planet.
