Hi Lillian....looks like a Light-pillar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_pillar), some times called sun-pillar, caused by ice-crystals with horizontal flat surfaces.Lots of pics here. Thanks for pointing these out to me Lillian. They are amazing and beautiful.
The photo links have been really enjoyable.
I had no ideas about this phenomena. Been trying to catch Sun-Dogs for a year and now I have something else to look for :)
Saw my first Lenticular cloud a few months ago too. Actually 4 of them only 4-5 kilometres away. Very excited.:eyepop:

Funnily enough, last night I was checking out the weather hoping to set up my new scope, (no luck there) and noticed this solitary sundog...the sun was hidden by some lower cloud than the (presumably) high stratus that was causing it...camera was an old Coolpix 4.3mp snapper, so I'm quite pleased with the result...
