There I was, enthused and ready to go forth and photograph any subject of any challenge laid before me. I checked the forum to see what that challenge might be, checked out the first couple of entries and promptly decided that a month off is the best idea.

Great shots guys! Houghy, that formation is awesome particulary with the varying degrees of light coming through at different places.

But you guys who have posted these fab shots already should have waited for others to submit prior to putting these forward. Might be only a few entries this month otherwise!

I love clouds, just not at night.

Not these photos but most of my cloud shots are animations. I have 17 CD's full of about 100 animations. Must convert them to DVD one century.

Keep the entries coming. I like all cloud piccies. :)

These ones are with film. Kodak use to do the best printing rather than the 1 hour photo lab cos they would correct for too much red or whichever colour and wash it all out lol.

Wow Kevin, thats very good! and so are the others, yes I agree dont go to rabbit or whatever with film shots - kodak photo labs are the go

:eyepop: Wow, already this is going to be a good month. Some great pics posted already.

Kevin and Houghy your photo's that you haven't selected are equally as good if not better.

I have had to go back and rethink my approach to this months challenge and as Mike has said should suit the stormchasers very well...

Good luck to everyone this month. The topic has certainly aided in giving us clear skies in South Australia so far this month.

Awesome shots so far everyone, Houghys Guster looks magnificent. Nice wide field too.
Kevins Storm WOW look at that anvil, so many layers looks very nice.
Ian, can never get tired of seeing the top end storms and buildups leading upto the wet season, absolutely awesome at sunset.
Volan, can never get tired of Contrails no matter how much high level stuff they put into the sky and spoil a good viewing.
AD, love the Cumulonimbus (Cb).
Miko, talk about being at eye level, that looks pretty damn high.
Chrissyo, AWESOME image of mammatus, very artistic, can never get tired of seeing that stuff.
Laurie, WOW 44DD's for sure, amazing Mammatus, very severe.
Mike, clouds at sunset have always been great viewing, this one looks great well done.

Hey Houghy, thats a scorcher of a cloud pic! Reminds me of those scenes in Independace Day when the invading space craft were pushing roiling clouds in front of them.Love that pic of yours too Chrissyo.

There are so many awesome clouds that I feel guilty for choosing based on the photo as a whole, rather than just the subject. gaa_ian's is the one that strikes me as being the nicest even though some of the other clouds are more "special".

Thanks!
Yeah, next time someone picks "Old man sitting on picnic table in a park, where two of the Great Lakes meet, next to a bridge, near a tree, while a storm moves in at sunset" as the subject, I'll have to enter this photo. Bet I'll place in the top twenty!

OKay changed my image, here is another I was going to add but because of the way it was done, I thought it would not be ideal for a contest..

iceman
22-03-2006, 11:27 AM
How was it done? Looks like the start of a tornado! :eyepop:

Your new entry in the contest is way better than the other one, although the other one was really nice too! Welld one.

Astroman
22-03-2006, 11:42 AM
The funnel is actually a fake, I was showing someone how easy it was to get a "normal" cloud image and play around with photoshop (or any other editing program) and put something in there that isn't. I don't like doing this but it was an example of how easy it is. If I see single funnel/tornado images (with no others with it), I expect some sort of proof like video or a series of images to back up the single image. Otherwise it "could" be a fake. I like it though even though it is fake.

Here is the original image.

Andrew (Astroman) the one you entered now in the competition is stunning, I love the contrasty colours and wide composition.

Excellent.

some of these shots are truely awesome...but me wonders if its a photo comp or photoshop comp??not mentioning names...you know who you are:P

Muddy Diver
28-03-2006, 12:44 PM
Apologies Asi and Rocket Boy. Must have taken my shot on the same if not simialr night to yours but hadnt seen your entries before posting my similar effort. If I had Rocket Boy I wouldn't have bothered. I struggled to get the detail into my photo with reducing it in size.

Bit late to change now though.

RB
28-03-2006, 01:05 PM
Entering the comp is all part of the fun Muddy, I really enjoy looking at everyone's photos and it's free.
I sometimes buy photo mags to see other peoples efforts, this way is far better and entertaining.

Thanks for the nice comments.
I was surprised at how much colour the Canon 20Da picked up that night, the rings around the moon were visually stunning and it showed through on the image.

Well done everyone once again this month.
