I planted this 'Grass Tree' (Xanthorrhea Sp) Twenty two years ago.

This year they put up long seed pod spikes-most unusual plant. Its said they
take a very long time to get very tall. The birds and insects love the flowers.
Here are a couple of images I took of a Friar bird. There are large amounts of the birds that fight to land on the 'spear',so was hard to get a image of one still!

Hope these are of interest-thanks for looking-Cheers Chris

Here is a image of the 'Grass tree' with the two long seed pods,as it looks at the moment, its an unusual, but interesting plant to have in the garden many years to get to this size.

Comments and view points on friar birds on seed pod welcomed.

Cheers Chris

What fantastic photos Chris. I love Noisy Friarbirds and I love Grass Trees - 100% character in each. The bird in these photos just looks as mad as a Friarbird should - the eye is brilliant. Beautiful clarity.

Dat's an ugly boyd! Great photos though.

Around these parts we've always called those grass trees 'Black Boys', but that gets frowned upon these days.

Cheers,
Jason.

Awesome set, especially #2 which has caught my eye. I've never seen one of these birds before though.
