Hi all, it was a while I wanted to shoot the Helix nebula from Coona. Considering that with my rig I cannot get a very high resolution (my scope is only 1 mt FL) I tried to go deep to see what I was able to see on the faintest parts of this planetary. I was pleased to detect the large bubble gas that envelopes the main ring and also some dust in the area, even if I was a bit surprised by how faint these features are and how much I had to stretch the original data to make them visible.

Here is the link:
http://www.glitteringlights.com/Images/deepsky/13667287_7Mtr58#1554558673_LfzjnLq-X3-LB

Total exposure was 16.5 hours (HaOIIILRGB). Other details on the page.

As usual there is also a the full res zoomify version accessible here:[/URL]

Hope you will like it.

Wow thats deep, love the cirrus scattered about, zooming in shows quite a bit of detail inside the ring and in the many background galaxies scattered around. Looks best wide and the envelopes are detailed shapely arcs merging into the rich background.

Lovely shot Marco! With the cirrus in the background it just looks amazing. I would be sending this to the APOD people.

BTW the zoomify still takes me to Centaurus A.

Cheers

Have to agree, that this is one of the best wide field images of the Helix I have seen to date!
Heaps of cirrus that is accentuated by the lovely dark background.
The extra time with added OIII just adds to the central regions chemistry.

Outstanding stuff.

Thanks Peter, appreciate

Thanks Greg, actually I was surprised by HOW LITTLE dust were there, considering the level of stretch I applied to this image! I was expecting to see some more.. In any case it is always fun to see what is hidden in the lowest part of the histogram in your pics :)

Thanks H!

Thanks to you too Aris

Thanks Louie

Happy you liked it Ric, pity the resolution is not so high, there are loads of hidden treasures in the central part of the Helix that my image doesn't show..

Thanks Cventer, I have my TEC on a Paramount ME

Thanks a lot Ric :)

Hey, how'd I miss comenting on this beauty  :screwy:

Great result Marco, the addition of plenty of lum has enabled you to show up that faint Cirrus nicely - great work

Funny how things progress, like the Dumbell M27 we don't bother with an image of the Helix now unless it shows the extra outer shells...and now not unless it shows galactic Cirrus:eyepop:

Oh wow! How sensational is this image. I now know why I only do 30 sec monochrome images of galaxies. Just superb.

Thanks Peter.. well, actually you can get quite deep with 30 secs images too, just need to sum up some thousands subs :D

:P now waiting for you going deeper with your superfast scope and seeing what else is hiding down there.. Thanks for the comments!

Marco, that is absolutely sublime. The best detailed and processed image I've seen yet of the helix. I just love the colours and the information in your image and it makes me want to do better with my own imaging. Thanks for posting.
