Hi All,

Recently I came back from a European trip which included a visit to London and I managed to squeeze into the schedule a visit to the Royal Observatory in Greenwich and saw the Astronomy Photographer of the year exhibition.

I must say this was the most impressive presentation of astro-images, which were printed on some kind of film and illuminated from the back. The room itself was rather dark and glowing images of the night sky looked magnificent. The room was full of visitors too!

Australia was well represented as you all know and I took a few photos of our winning images. Only when I arrived to Melbourne I realised that I forgot to make a close-up image of Peter Ward's Hydrogen-Alpha Sun but it was way too late. Sorry, Peter!

Small images are attached and full resolution photos can be downloaded here (30MB):

one of the reasons I enjoy IIS is the opportunity it gives me to learn from some of the best.

Those are images are great Alex. Funny you should post these images; a friend of mine yesterday at a function presented me with a bag from the Prime Meridian. In it contained several magnetic book marks, two cups, a photo presentation of the what the gallery looked like and a post card set with my entry on the front. It was a total surprise and I was a little flabbergasted. I had no idea this is what my image would be used for and the gifts presented are a nice momento of the exhibition.

I have received images from several friends that were in England around the opening but your images are the best so far.

Mike, royalties would be very light I imagine.;)

In 2009 the deal was 10% of all profits (After the exhibition closed I got a cheque for 0$ )

Martin was the overall winner that year, he may have actually had a worthwhile number next to his $ sign :)

Thanks for the thought Alex, but I have 4 of the bookmarks, you keep that.:)

Mike, I might get some royalties but I reckon it will be quite low in number.

That is fantastic.
What a great way to display astro images, I have lightboxes for displaying movie posters backlit in that way, it would be a perfect presentation for images from the night sky.
