My son went to a band thing with his school on Wednesday night, and I had 2 hours to spare so I took my camera and tripod and setup on the Gosford Waterfront, near the now defunct Iguana Joes.

The main purpose was:
- To get some practise in before IISAC
- To test out the Canon 10-22 lens that Chris is loaning me.

I used AV mode (f/3.5) and so the camera worked out the exposure as it got darker, and generally it did ok but a few times at night it switched exposures between 8", 10", 13" etc and also some user-related problems with the remote control meant there were a few shorter exposures in there as well.

It's meant the timelapse gets a bit jerky towards the end with the light changing - otherwise I would've been happy with the transition from day to night.

I would've liked to have been there for longer but had to pick Jacob up at 8:30pm just after it got dark.

I spotted an Iridium Flare while I was standing in the cold, and luckily it did come out on the timelapse. Actually turns out there were 2, within seconds of each other in the same spot. Look for them near the SCP right near the end.

It's only 30 seconds, and in 720p HD:

There's also a 1080 version.

Thanks for looking.

Well that came out pretty good Mike, I must try and learn how to do that one day myself, I enjoyed it, well done.

Ahh, Wednesday evening's twilight yacht race finishing as well in there.
Brings back memories of sailing in those. Good capture Mike.

Thanks for the comments. Yeh it was nice to see the yachts sailing around, made it good for the timelapse.

I would've actually preferred some clouds in the sky too that would've gone a nice pink as the sun set.

I finally blogged about this, and also put together the matching star trails image.

The star trails image is below, and it's blogged at;

Looks great Mike-well done, fantastic to see the results of the 10-22 mm in use, glad it got some use.

The image in a further post also looks great.I have just booked an apartment down on the Sunshine coast, and looking at giving this ago from the balcony.

How many frames all up in the 30 second clip?

I am wondering about this type of photography.Using AV worked well, only toward the end is it a little jerky as you mentioned-which is not all that distracting. If I did this in the apartment, and had the laptop, and not have to worry about time curfews.

Would using APT work-I think it lets you adjust settings 'on the fly',may be this would be good going from sunset to dark? May be I could let it run all night,Brendan is making a PSU for camera. So no problems with battery.

cheers Chris:thumbsup:

Looks good Mike, but like you say, you should always wish for cloudy nights :-). the exposure flashes a bit, were you set to auto ?

Thanks Chris and Fred!

About 600 all up. Most of those were during the day time though, when they were 1 exposure every 10 seconds.

Yeh, during the day I was set to AV @ f/3.5, so the exposure changed around a bit. I could see it too, while watching the top screen it would flick between 8" and 10" as it got dark.

When it got dark enough I changed to manual and did 15" or 20" exposures.
