Well nothing spectacular despite the seeing appearing so promising it's a tough object the old Jupiter but good to be imaging the giant planet again.

Trying to capture some more frames over a longer period of time and RGB aligning using features on the centre of the disk so the limbs look slightly out of alignment.

Approximately 800 frames in each channel stacked.

Hope others are having better success.

Nice John. Heaps of detail and quite nicely processed. Seeing was utter crap here this morning. 2/10 at best I reckon and the night before was not much better. Saw the double transit for a few minutes and one moon touch the limb and the other left the limb. That was cool, but from there the seeing was a non event. So beware the seeing will get worse.

why is the seeing so bad this year? All the hard work of setting up my C14 then having crap seeing all the time its really not worth the time.

Thanks for comments.

I have always thought that spring has got the worse seeing because there is a lot of instability in all the weather systems. Would hazzard a guess that Autumn has the most stable weather. Also of the belief that at most locations like the big cities we live in here at OZ the seeing may get to excellent only several times per year. Combine that with a low Jupiter and it will always be tough. Don't know how guys like Damien Peach does it when he gets really good shots even at 35 or so degrees planet elevation. Guess the seeing is not that bad where he lives in the UK afterall.

If anyone has been able to work out the hPa wind vs seeing relationship in SE Australia would be interested to know.

Well done

Our latitude makes a big difference to our seeing. We have a jet stream over most of Australia during Winter and this time of the year. The jet stream has been very energetic since the drought broke and hence why seeing has been a problem this year. John has also considered another factor that is causing problems too. We know where the good seeing is; it's just the drive to Exmouth or Broome that is a problem.

Some good detail and naturally processed. Jetstream seems to be breaking up this week but feel seeing will still cause problems lets hope for an upturn.
