View Full Version here: : Stunning Moog synth for iPad released today

For anyone else out there like me, whose other interest is music and electronic musical instruments, Moog Music released "Animoog" today.
It's quite remarkable - based on Moog's new anisotropic synthesis engine. Touted as a "professional" synth for iPad (and it really is) it is incredible played either standalone or combined with your other MIDI-controlled synths in tracking mode. Truly incredible output.
If you have an iPad - and are even remotely interested in synthetic electronic music, GET IT!!! For 30 days it is only 99c from the App Store, before it goes up to the 30 dollar mark.

Hey mate,
I was just looking at that earlier -- I had to watch Dorit Chrysler (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ztfegVzqeCI) again, you see. :)
Pity that there's no iPhone version (for obvious reasons).

Pure brilliance. I'd happily pay over a hundred for this, to back it for a buck is insanity.

I agree Peter - it's crazy. The app is so good I'd happily pay a hundred or more too. People will be buying iPads just to run it.
You should hear it played in sync with my Moog hardware synth - oh boy... sensational ain't the word.

Yep, that's the one I meant. :) :)
Also, I bought Filtatron last night as it's also on special for 30 days. Wish I had an iPad so I could grab Animoog. Bugger.

Filtatron is Über cool as well.
Will post a couple of tunes I put together with Animoog soon...
It's got to be a good thing getting more tactile control over VSTs, mixing, etc. Looks like a pretty amazing bit of software. Will be cool when iPads have velocity sensitive touchscreens and someone writes an MPC clone?
(for all I know someone has :P)

Meanwhile, some of us sit and play acoustic instruments and record to 16trk 1" tape through a 24 channel desk :D

Then run one more channel on the desk! ;) I have enough trouble managing my eight channels, thanks very much.
I hear you, as I've played acoustic (piano, flute, trumpet) since 1970. I'm enjoying a renaissance with electronica - and it's a revelation. There'll always be room for traditional instruments.

Just tried animoog and filtertron on my iPad and they are freaking awesome, but GarageBand is the ducks guts. I can't believe how this is all possible after many years building analog synths,it's insane. Despite my hatred of apple for being the only company capable of producing software that hard resets my PC,is at times blindingly unintuitive, and has by far the least helpful info on serious miss haps, I must say if I keep the iPhone and ipd well away from my PC , apps such as these are an absolute marvel

"Alchemy Pro" Fred.... ;) Another recent and great addition. Soundscape design...

I got Alchemy the other day, Chris.
How do I assign each block a sound of its own? Or, is that not how it works?

Good on you Humayun - it's another top iDevice music app. Did you get standard or pro?
The "boxes" you're speaking of are factory pre-configured modulation settings - in reference to the available poly or arp presets you're playing at the time. They are designed by Camel Audio to be moved between, from box to box, with each transition appearing as a natural and pleasant translation from one soundscape to the next. Very clever. You can't reconfigure them and store an alternative as such. Make sure you slide slowly between boxes and don't tap them - otherwise transitions are too sharp (unless that's what you wish to hear).
Download the sampled sound banks - they're huge (several hundred megabytes each), so do it via wifi. At $5.49 each I've downloaded all of them - especially fond of the "Arp Dimensions", but also now have "BigTone" and "Cinematic". Excellent synth for live baselines.

I just got Alchemy Synth Mobile. Can't remember how much it was. Was cheap, though. :)
I take it you can only choose from the drop down list the starting synth (and beat), and, then moving between the other banks, you phase through the transitions?

Enjoy! only a buck for a while. Animoog for iPad is over its intro price and costs nearly $30. This is great value.

Given the smaller real estate available to it, it's very well designed. MIDI works brilliantly over my Mac's adhoc WiFi MIDI network. You could use your new M-Audio controller with it and Garage Band. Create two independent tracks - with the Animoog on one (MIDI) and a contrasting soft synth on the other. Noice :) Use your headphones!!!
I'm trying both the iPad and iPhone - each running Animoog but set to different patches, and the Moog Phatty analogue synth all at the same time via Live8. Wow... what incredibly complex and fat sound. Amazing!

This is unreal! There's so much to it and such a gorgeous interface.
Will need to pick your brains about this. :)

Thanks Chris,
I missed the heads up on the iphone version but found it yesterday just browsing the app store, still at $0.99!
I got my sister to buy it for her ipad when it was at 99cents as well.
Not that I'm a music man, but I love playing with all the buttons, sounds etc etc!!!!
Great sounds!
Cheers

Yeah - very cool, eh Bart? :)
I'm experimenting further with Mac ad-hoc MIDI networking and coupling both iPad and iPhone to the same MIDI channel - playing both devices slightly out of sync with each other and one de-tuned a semitone. Wicked sound. It can make the house rattle.

Hey Chris now that you mention the 'de-tune' bit....i saw a quick tute on youtube ( about animoog) and the guy said that if you increase the 'de-tune' it increases the stereo (effect?) .
Is this true....or does it just mean the sounds wave back and forth between left and right channels?
I haven't tried it with headphones yet.....
Loving the fact I can almost recreate some of those 80-90's type music ( vangelis for some reason comes to mind :) )
Thanks

I don't know what I'm doing, but, it is just so much fun to play with while listening to on headphones.
I pretend I'm Klaus Schulze (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUCYq2qLxJc).
Excerpt from a 30+ minute track. Magician.

Same Same!
Whilst I have no idea who Klaus is, I had a look and liked it. I Youtubed ( if that is a word ) him and also found a link to one of my faves, which I'm sure, used a lot of Animoog type of mixing ....I can do it now..... wicked! ::rofl:;);););)
Here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoYoatCg5ds&feature=artist) is another ( I believe ) completely Synth composition mash up, but could be done with Animoog.....now..

I'm creating tunes like there is no tomorrow !!!!!
Where is the save button!!!!(found it)
hehehehehhehe
Its tricky on the iPhone, but doable for those that are even un-interested.
Just for the fun of it (mmmm maybe need to be over 35 years old ....just maybe) ........AND I AM CERTAINLY HAVING FUN!
Wish I could live stream now....
(playing with 'EvolvingEchopluck' and also a modified version.....)

Stream and record your audio from Animoog using this - either Mac or Windows for $38:
http://bavasmusic.com.au/store/behringer-uca222-p-3616.html
Works an absolute treat on my Macs under GarageBand, Logic 9 or Live 8.
Glad you're having fun with it Bart. It's a great app. You should also check out GarageBand on the iPhone - it's brilliant as well.
